Stardew Valley: How to Get Super Cucumber

Stardew Valley: How to Get Super Cucumber

In Stardew Valley, players can catch any number of different fish depending on the time of year, time of day, and even location. While players can figure out how to fish in Stardew Valley for many of the more common species without help, finding a Super Cucumber can be difficult.

While Super Cucumbers might sound like a giant vegetable that Stardew Valley players can grow, they’re actually a rare version of the eel-like cucumber fish. They can be used in the spools of sewing machines to make Tube Tops, sold for a chunk of change, and can be used to obtain the strange ??HMTGF?? statue. While not a legendary fish, the Super Cucumber is still pretty difficult to get and will only come out during certain times and seasons, in specific locations.

Stardew Valley: How to Catch Legend

Legend is the most coveted catch for every fisherman in Stardew Valley, and here we’ll share some tips to help you get it.

Updated June 2025 by Mina Smith: Stardew Valley is one of those games that is constantly getting updates, new content, and different changes to items already in the game. One of the many things changed in the 1.6 update to this farming simulation is the Super Cucumber; there are new times and places you can catch these weird little fish. Elliott’s views on it as a gift has also been updated.

Times and Places to Catch a Super Cucumber

The best way to search for one of these elusive cucumbers is to fish at the right time, and in the right place.

  • The Beach in Summer and Fall, between 6pm and 2am
  • In the submarine at the Night Market
  • The Ocean portions of Ginger Island any time of year (south, southeast, and west sides of the island) between 6pm and 2am, any time of year
  • The Pirate Cove on Ginger Island between 6pm and 2am, any time of year

They can also be found in garbage cans in the Summer and Fall, but this is, of course, very rare. Another unreliable method is from the Traveling Cart, which does have the possibility of stocking a Super Cucumber, but it’s rare.

If players have the Statue of Endless Fortune, it will produce a Super Cucumber every year on Winter 17, which is the Wizard’s birthday.

With the use of Magic Bait, Super Cucumbers can be caught in their normal locations any time of year or day.

It’s important that players have a good fishing rod and have leveled up their Fishing skill in Stardew Valley as much as possible to make catching easier.

Super Cucumbers cannot be caught with the Training Rod!

How to Get the ??HMTGF?? Statue

In order to get the ??HMTGF?? statue, players need to utilize one of the “magic” crates. Take a single, unstacked Super Cucumber and head to the blacksmith’s shop in SDV; if players don’t unstack the Cucumbers, the crate will take all of the Cucumbers in that stack instead of just one.

Head north of the blacksmith’s shop and look for a fenced area. There is a hole in the fence through which players can access the magic crate.

The magic crate will exchange the purple fish for a trophy that is even stranger. The ??HMTGF?? is a secret piece of furniture that looks like someone tried to make a Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants statue out of spare parts. The statue cannot be resold, but it can be displayed as the piece of artwork, and it is one of the many unique items from Stardew Valley that players can acquire.

Other Uses for Super Cucumbers

This purple fish does have some other uses, but nothing unique or special. It can be treated like almost any other fish: put in a Fish Pond, used in tailoring, turned into an Artisan Good, or sold.

  • Super Cucumbers can be used as a fish for the recipes that use any fish at all: Maki Rolls, Sashimi, and Quality Fertilizer
  • They can be sold for anywhere between 250g and 500g based on quality at base; between 312g and 625g with the Fisher Profession; and between 375g and 750g with the Angler Profession
  • A Super Cucumber can be placed in a Fish Smoker to double its price (also requires a single Coal)
  • Super Cucumbers can be made into Super Cucumber Bait, which makes players more likely to catch more of them when fishing in the right place and time
  • A Super Cucumber Fish Pond can produce a few items based on the population:

    • 1 Super Cucumber Roe (which can be sold for 155g or turned into Aged Super Cucumber Roe; sells for 310g or 434g with Artisan Profession)
    • 1-3 Iridium Ore
    • 1-3 Amethysts
  • A Super Cucumber is a possible request from a villager on the Help Wanted board (rewards 750g and 150 friendship with the requester)
  • A Super Cucumber can be combined with Cloth at a Sewing Machine to make a dyeable Tube Top

    • It also counts as a purple item for the dye pots
  • Super Cucumbers can be eaten as-is to restore some energy and health: 125 to 325 energy, depending on quality, and between 56 and 146 health
