While the game’s paintings can be put up on their own, combining them with a sign this way reflects the image of the painting onto the sign, making it look like a frame or canvas for the painting. While nearly any item can have its image put on a sign, leading to some pretty funny uses for signs in Stardew Valley, it seems many hadn’t considered using them this way.
