Netflix teased a very action heavy final season of Stranger Things with its first teaser trailer.
Set in the fall of 1987, more than a year after the events of season 4, the trailer reveals how Hawkins has been tranformed by the rifts Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) opened. The town is under military quarantine, with soldiers using controlled burns to try to contain the influence of the Upside Down. That doesn’t seem to be going very well given the demogorgon and demodogs seen prowling in the trailer.
With the miliary searching for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) again, she’s gone back into hiding while continuing to try to help her friends find and kill Vecna. He seems to be hunting them as well, making an ominous appearance controlling a wall or fire in the trailer’s final moments.
The teaser is packed with references to everything the heroes have been through together, featuring a particularly sad look at Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) kneeling in from of the desecrated grave of his heroic dungeon master Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn). Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) remains comatose from Vecna’s attack, though hopefully she’ll wake up soon!
Everyone’s got a part to play in the final fight, with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) wielding an ax, Eleven dipping back into the water to use her psychic powers, and police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) chucking two grenades. The trailer also provides a first look at Terminator star Linda Hamilton’s Dr. Kay holding a gun while accompanied by a bunch of soldiers.
The first four episodes of season 5 of Stranger Things premiere on Netflix at 5 p.m. PT November 26, with three more episodes releasing on Christmas, and the finale dropping on New Year’s Eve.
