Players went through a roller coaster of emotions following the release of the Dev Talk Vol. 10. It was announced that the rank reset would be happening every half a Season in Marvel Rivals. However, there was a huge backlash in the community which made the developers rethink this decision.
Developers Announced a Mid-Season Rank Reset
On February 10, the developers shared the latest Dev Talk where they talked about plans for the second half of Season 1. The Dev Talk 10 revealed The Thing and Human Torch were arriving on February 21, to start off the second half of the Season. Also, some major balancing changes would be applied at the same date.
However, the issue arose with the announcement of the mid-Season rank reset. The devs noted: “Ranks will be reset when the second half of Season 1 starts on February 21, 2025. Based on your standing at the end of the first half of Season 1, prepare for a drop of four divisions. For example, if you ended the first half of Season 1 at Diamond I, you’ll start the second half at Platinum II”.
Marvel Rivals players were outraged at the very thought of a rank reset halfway through the Season. AngryRaccoon44 stated: ” People have JOBS. I don’t have the time to re-rank up every few weeks. Out of everything great about this game, this WILL make me and my friends stop playing. They can make every character flawless and everything can be OP in just the right ways. But I won’t play because Ranked is pointless”.
Marvel Rivals Players Pressured the Devs Into Letting Them Keep Their Rank
Thankfully, Marvel Rivals developers decided to listen to players and announced there would be on mid-Season rank reset, following the outrage. They quickly issued the Dev Talk Vol. 11 which explained the new system.
They noted: “The first half of the season will still conclude on February 21, 2025, at 8:00 AM (UTC+0). Players at Gold rank will receive the costume reward, as well as Crests of Honors for those in Grandmaster and above, and the Crest of Honor for the top 500 (One Above All)”.
The devs added: “When the second half of the season begins, there will be no rank reset. Players will retain their ranks and scores from the end of the first half. To earn new rewards, players simply need to complete 10 matches in Competitive mode and meet the relevant conditions by the end of the season. Rewards will include a new Gold rank costume and a variety of Crests of Honor, featuring distinct designs for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All”.
