We all know that a new Descendant is on the way but we only saw the promo image and heard a couple of things about her lore and playstyle. Nexon has asked The First Descendant players what they think of Serena, and the fans give their honest first impressions.
Nexon’s looter shooter is best known for their supermodel-looking female characters, so it is no surprise that they have the most attention, from both the players and the devs. So much so that the guys are somehow always sidelined. The devs put real effort (most of the time) into designing their female characters and their accompanying Skins, so each of them can be unique. But sometimes, the amount of ideas runs dry and you end up slightly copying another’s work. Recently, Nexon has asked their fans what their first impressions of Serena are, a new character joining the fray, and The First Descendant players gave their two cents.
First Impressions of Serena – A Mercy Ripoff?
We can’t deny that TFD has been inspired by many online shooters of today, most notably Destiny and Warframe. On top of that, there was a situation when Nexon “borrowed” from Blizzard’s Overwatch, when players realized that the icon for one of Keelan’s Skills looks surprisingly similar. That was fixed and we thought Nexon would take better care in the future. Well, it looks like we’re wrong.
When Nexon asked The First Descendant players what their first impressions of Serena are, the majority just couldn’t resist pointing out the fact that she looks an awful lot like Mercy from Overwatch. The blonde hair, white armor, and even the wings have the same design and color scheme. “That’s just Mercy from OverWatch” said tilfordkage on X, and “I literally thought this was some kind of crossover event with a mercy skin” added TheImShadow.
Others state that she’s just a reskinned Viessa, adding just another blonde to the mix. “A skin for Viessa? OmG, what happened to originality?” said SelianeBcn, ”Why another Viessa/Ines?” said hangya420, and “I’m getting really tired of blonde white woman ima keep it a stack.” added Aether_Solace.
Finally, some couldn’t miss the opportunity to comment on the state of the game. Like Bishop1530990, saying: “Another new descendant to grind out for nothing to do nothing with. The real question is. What are we supposed to do with all these descendants? You level them all up, then you run into the “wtf do I do now with them now?” wall.”
Ultimately, her looks are pretty cool and she’ll fit into the roster pretty well, but we can’t deny that the design is way too similar to Mercy. At least she’s not a healer as well…right?
