The second part of Season 1 has begun and it brought a bunch of improvements, new content, and some balance changes. As for the player reactions, the recent balance update sparks a debate in the Marvel Rivals community, with the majority thinking that high-mobility characters have gotten way too good.
On February 19, Marvel Rivals entered the second half of Season 1. It added The Thing and Human Torch as playable characters, Central Park as a new map, some changes to excess Chrono Tokens, and various other smaller updates. And, of course, the new update means a new balance update, where the devs try to balance out every character and make the game enjoyable for everyone. Well, it looks like one type of Heroes came out of this better than the rest and the fans have mixed feelings about it.
The Recent Balance Update Buffs High-Mobility Characters Irritating Some Parts of the Marvel Rivals Community
Since day one, NetEase has been adamant that they won’t be enforcing any team composition in the game. They want the players to have the freedom to make any combinations possible. This has caused some dissatisfaction in the past, and now, another problem is seemingly on the horizon.
The latest balance update has buffed a lot of characters, with only a few getting actual nerfs. But what the players noticed was that both flying characters and “dive” characters had either gotten better or had dodged the nerf bat. This, and the addition of the flying Human Torch, lead players to believe that we’re about to see a ton of dive-focused teams.
With Iron Man getting a buff to his Unibeam, Iron Fist getting some improvements as well, Wolverine not being touched, Scarlet Witch getting bonus HP when using her ult, and Star Lord getting a mobility buff, the Strategist players are afraid that will mean they will get dive-bombed left and right. “The season of dive.. rip healers, watch the inevitable rocket bans “ said pandunkel, and “Wolverine: Prepare for trouble; Iron Fist: And make it double“ added FoxHoundXL.
However, some would argue that healers are way too good in this game and need to be toned down. “…exactly why the nerf was warranted – people were only using the invincibility ult healers. All healers are strong as [heck] anyways, this game’s got the consistently best support class of any game” said Zealousideal-Gur-273, and “I think most of the tank buffs are bigger, DPS mostly got quality of life. Healers definitely needed to be nerfed tho let’s be so real.” added Hammer_Bro99.
Lastly, there are those who are sure that The Thing, being immune to knockbacks and displacements of every other type, will be a good anchor for the team and keep the healers safe. We will see, it is still early to pass judgment on the balance update.
