Artist Jeremy Simser has shared storyboards from The Fantastic Four: First Steps, revealing a deleted action sequence between Mister Fantastic and the Red Ghost’s Super Apes.
The frames, posted on Instagram, show Reed Richards battling Miklho the gorilla, with another panel featuring Igor the baboon stretching Reed’s face.
John Malkovich was cast as the Red Ghost in 2024, but his scenes were cut from the movie just weeks before release. Director Matt Shakman confirmed on the Phase Hero podcast that the original opening featured a full fight between the Fantastic Four and the Red Ghost. But the sequence was removed in editing to streamline the story.
Recently, Shakman had also spoken about other deleted moments that only appear briefly in the final cut.
Speaking to Collider, Chiklis praised the cast, especially Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing. “I wish everybody in that production the best. I had a great experience doing them… I really like Ebon Moss-Bachrach. He’s a terrific actor,” he said.
Chiklis also defended the earlier Fantastic Four films, saying critics underestimated them. “There were a lot of people, I think, critically who got it wrong… they were family-friendly, fun movies… they got a lot right. They may be imperfect, but they’re really good movies,” he added.
The new rebooted Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Ralph Ineson as Galactus, and Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer.
We gave the film an 8/10 in our review, calling it “easily the best live-action take on Marvel’s first family so far.”
