God, look at me. Recommending a PCIe 5.0 SSD like I’m some Newegg banner ad. 2023 James would be violently sick. Yet it is in fact 2025, and while cheaper PCIe 4.0 drives still make the most sense to most people, newer and faster 5.0 models have begun to find their place as futureproofed upgrades to high-spec PCs. And if they can be made less of a luxury, all the better, as is the case with Amazon’s current sale on the WD Black SN8100.
A benchmarking bout with the RPS Test Rig confirmed the Black SN8100 as the overall quickest gaming SSD around, matching the Samsung 9100 Pro for loading speeds and beating it on general read/write performance. That makes it one top-of-the-line storage slice, of the sort where any price cut is a welcome one. Also, it’ll… stop people blaming you for Helldivers 2’s install size? I guess?

That Amazon UK price for the 1TB version isn’t actually a Prime Big Deal Days offer, but it is slightly lower than that specific capacity has been trending for the past few weeks. Also, it’s open to everyone, unlike the actual Large Deal Days discounts, which need a Prime account (or free Prime trial) to unlock.
