Forest 3‘s shocking reveal at last night’s Game Awards ceremony has left quite literally every Sons of the Forest player asking the same question: Where is our PlayStation 5 port? Very little is known about the next installment in The Forest series, aside from its recent sci-fi trailer, but it has left the community concerned that its predecessor, Sons of the Forest, may never end up receiving a much-requested PlayStation 5 port.
It was a huge night for gaming fans last night, as The Game Awards returned with plenty of world premieres, updates, and, of course, awards. One reveal in particular left fans amazed and shocked as Geoff Keighley introduced the trailer as “completely unexpected,” and he wasn’t lying. The trailer for Forest 3 was filled with abnormal aliens, neon lights, futuristic weapons, synth music, and, of course, a spooky forest. It came as a total shock for two main reasons, with the first being that this trailer looked nothing like the first two Forest games, and the second being that Sons of the Forest only left early access in 2024. While it was a great surprise, it has left many disappointed, as it now seems highly unlikely that the current entry will come to consoles.

Sons of The Forest Players Still Want a PS5 Port
Instead of fans speculating on a potential release date or platforms for Forest 3, tons of posts began to appear across social media as the community questioned if this meant Endnight has no interest in porting Sons of the Forest to PlayStation 5. One user took to the The Forest subreddit with a screenshot of Forest 3‘s reveal, stating, “Guess that means PS5 isn’t getting Sons of the Forest then.” Others then chimed in, not with excitement for the next installment, but with anger for the lack of console release for the 2024 title. “Annoying,” one fan said, before bashing Endnight for ignoring the community’s request for a console version. A separate post said they were “upset” that the trailer for a third entry dropped before Sons of the Forest was ported to PlayStation 5. “Stop ignoring the people,” the user exclaimed.
Unfortunately, Endnight has remained pretty quiet on a potential console version of the game. At the game’s early access launch, the studio did tell GamingBolt it would “love” to bring the sequel to consoles in the future, but noted that it was currently focusing on delivering the best experience possible to PC players. Since that comment, Endnight has said nothing about a PlayStation or Xbox port for Sons of the Forest, but its focus on PC exclusivity does appear to have gone down well with those who can play the game. At the time of writing, the game has well over 100,000 user reviews with an overall rating of “very positive.” It isn’t quite as impressive as its predecessor, which has over 172,000 reviews with an “overwhelmingly positive” rating, but it’s still pretty good for a sequel.
While Endnight said it would love to bring the title to consoles, another reason fans were so convinced that Sons of the Forest would, at some point, be ported to PlayStation and Xbox is because that’s exactly what happened with The Forest. After launching in early access all the way back in 2014, The Forest finally came to PlayStation 4 in November 2018, just a few months after its official 1.0 release. Sadly, it never made its way to Xbox consoles, which led many to believe that if Sons of the Forest ever did make its way to consoles, it would likely only be on PlayStation 5.
Forest 3, albeit massively surprising, wasn’t the only moment that shocked fans during The Game Awards last night. While the show gave fans a further look at the PS5 exclusive Saros, as well as confirmation that yes, Leon Kennedy will be in Resident Evil Requiem, it also featured the world premiere of a new Tomb Raider game, a new entry in the Divinity series, and even the reveal of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, which will be a spiritual successor to the much loved Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic with Casey Hudson at the helm.
