No sooner had I hit publish on a lovely (and very cheap) deal for an Acer monitor, than I spotted the Samsung Odyssey G5 Ultrawide had seen a discount of its own.
As I always say, 34 inches feels like the sweet spot (sigh) for ultrawide in my opinion, and this model offers just about everything you could want. And yet, I’d advise holding fire for now.
This Samsung ultrawide display is great, but I reckon it’ll get cheaper soon
In and of itself, a 25% discount on a 34-inch ultrawide monitor, from Samsung no less, is a solid deal. The Odyssey G5 is down to $299.99, sneaking under the $300 mark with a 25% saving off the $399.99 MSRP.
And yet, since it was $20 cheaper than that just last month for the Prime Day festivities (which was more like a week), I reckon it’s a shoo-in for a Black Friday deal. Given that was the lowest price Amazon has sold it for, at the very least, we expect it to match that price come the silly season of sales.
Samsung’s Odyssey range runs from the ultrawide to the comically wide, but this feels like a nice middle ground. It’s got a 34-inch display with a 1440p resolution at an aspect ratio of 21:9, and has a 165Hz refresh rate with AMD FreeSync Premium built in and HDR 10.
There’s also a 1000R curvature to help you feel immersed, with 1ms response times, and both HDMI and DisplayPort connection options.
So, between this and the aforementioned Acer monitor, there are a couple of options for budget and mid-range monitors right now.
