The Japanese release, however, pencilled in for 24th April, has not been moved.

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will move from April 3, 2026, to April 1, 2026 in the US and many additional markets globally, and will be released on April 24, 2026, in Japan, with select territories releasing throughout April,” Nintendo announced, as spotted by VGC.

Over the weekend, Nintendo unveiled a new trailer showcasing the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, giving us our first look at the previously-leaked Yoshi and Birdo.

The two-minute preview, which debuted overnight, was introduced by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, and sees Mario and Luigi pull up to investigate a “troubled pipe”. We also get our first peek at Yoshi and Birdo.

As well as the usual gaggle of characters, the upcoming animated sequel will also see Bowser Junior and Rosalina joining the chaos, the latter of which is being voiced by long-time Nintendo fan, Brie Larson.

Animation studio Illumination’s first movie adaptation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, proved to be a huge hit when it released in 2023, grossing over $1bn worldwide.
