Like the PS2, I had to wait to buy a PS3 because it was so expensive at launch. As a kid just going into college, and because there were no good games for a couple of years, it made sense to wait to buy a PS3. In 2008, a good deal made the PS3 more affordable for me, and I got it just in time for Grand Theft Auto 4 and to get ready for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots soon after.
8 Nearly Perfect PS3 Games That Deserve a Remaster
From exclusives to third-party, these near-perfect PlayStation 3 games deserve better—mainly, a shiny remaster.
I have a lot of good memories with the PS3, and the one bad thing about the console is that there are a lot of games still trapped on it. Some have gotten remasters, or remakes, like Dead Space and Demon’s Souls, while others are impossible for PlayStation fans to play, not counting bad streaming versions. Well, while my console still runs, I checked out some of my favorite games on the system, like inFAMOUS 2 and Spec Ops: The Line, and they hold up along with the others on the list.

Dead Space 2
Hide Your Eyeballs
Dead Space 2 is just as scary as it used to be in 2011, even though graphics have improved significantly in gaming. From the opening scene with the eyeball to jump scares involving people getting torn to shreds, it is a fright.
Shooting Necromorphs across destroyed ships or in the vacuum of space still feels great thanks to the upgradable weapons. Dead Space 2 is one of those horror examples that is so good, it can be played every year and still be amazing, and my playtime is proof of that.
inFAMOUS 2
Shocking The Bayou
inFAMOUS 2, its standalone DLC, and the original game all deserve a remaster on the PS5, but if there is one game that needs to be played above all others, it is inFAMOUS 2. It was the perfect game to kick off the summer in 2011, having freshly graduated from college and looking for something to get my mind off schoolwork.
The made-up bayou region of New Marais was a more interesting area to explore than the generic city setting of the original, and every mechanic was improved. Cole’s electric powers were more varied, melee felt great, and traversal was a breeze. inFAMOUS 2, and the other inFAMOUS games, can honestly stand next to modern superhero games like Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Rock Band
Time To Jam
Rock Band was one of the most expensive games I ever invested in, including getting all the instruments, proper stands, and DLC music. It was all worth it because Rock Band was a great party game for years, despite the instruments being hard to store.
Years later, after a little dusting, the instruments still worked, and the gameplay was as smooth as ever. The drums, guitars, and microphone options, along with the songs, took me back to some of my favorite gaming moments with friends, as music is a powerful memory tool.
A New Generation Of Platforming
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction was the first Ratchet & Clank game on the new hardware, and it did not disappoint. Beyond the first sequel, which added RPG elements, every game that came after was more of the same, but that wasn’t a bad thing.
10 Most Perfect PlayStation Games Of All Time
There’s a PlayStation kid inside all of us with these absolutely flawless titles. Let’s take a walk down the PS Hall of Fame.
Fans could always count on fun guns to try out, inventive planets to explore, the tightest controls possible, along with an overall polish that would make a grandma cry from pride. So, even though Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction wasn’t mind-blowing in 2007, I still found it an easy platformer to sit back and relax as if not a day had passed.
Just Cause 2
Crossing Wires
Just Cause 2 was fun because of the freedom it gave players to wreak absolute havoc on the made-up island country of Panau. Silos exploded with thunderous booms, enemies dropped like flies from well-trained bullets, and best of all, the grappling hook was incredibly versatile.
Players could use it to reach new heights, slingshot themselves across the map using a parachute combo, or they could attach themselves to cars and hijack them. The grappling hook usage goes on, but by and large, few games give players as much pure joy as Just Cause 2 over a decade later, and I was grinning from ear to ear.
LittleBigPlanet 2
Co-Op Fun For Everyone
LittleBigPlanet 2 is a good 2D platformer with co-op for anyone looking to have a fun time with three others on the couch. Even though all players have to be Sackboys, they can customize their characters with an amazing roster of costumes to make each one stand out.
I bought some DLC back at the height, so my characters can dress up like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid characters. Costumes aside, and even without the creative tools to make levels and post them online, the developer, Media Molecule, had enough whimsy to fill up LittleBigPlanet 2 with inventive ideas themselves, including worlds made of sweet treats and racing mini-games.
DuckTales: Remastered
Nostalgia Goggles
DuckTales: Remastered, despite the name, is a complete remake of the 1989 original NES game. The levels have been slightly altered, there are even some new levels, the controls got updated, and most importantly, voice acting and cutscenes were added.
The original cast was still alive when the game was made, including Scrooge McDuck himself, Alan Young, who was 94 at the time of this remake’s launch. The basic backgrounds are nothing special, but the hand-drawn characters still look impressive on the PS3, and it takes me back to my youth watching the cartoon all over again.
Enslaved: Odyssey To The West
A Mystical Adventure
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a fun action-adventure game about two protagonists, Trip and Monkey, on a treasure-hunting adventure. As they explore the lost ruins of civilization, from hovering across water to climbing decrepit skyscrapers, the pair will get attacked by robot pursuers.
10 “Bad” PS3 Games That Are Way Better Than You Remember
Don’t let your memory fool you; these PlayStation 3 games were much better experiences than most give them credit.
This was an underrated game at the time, and it remains a hidden gem now, thanks to no remaster ever being made. There are prettier post-apocalyptic games now, like Horizon Zero Dawn, but for a short romp, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West still hits the spot.
Eternal Sonata
A Melancholy RPG
Eternal Sonata started as an Xbox 360 exclusive before coming to the PS3. It’s one of the odder RPGs on the system, as it stars real-life composer Frederic Chopin in a dream world as he lies dying in reality.
The world is full of characters and monsters named after musical themes, and the gameplay is a hybrid between action and turn-based. Thanks to the cel-shaded visual style, it holds up better than most PS3 games visually, and while depressing, the story does have some interesting ideas that reminded me of my own mortality.
Spec Ops: The Line
A Dark Twist Of Fate
Spec Ops: The Line is an even darker game than Eternal Sonata, about a group of soldiers who go into Dubai after a massive conflict. Their allies are dead, along with innocent civilians, but they risk their lives going into hostile territory to stop this from happening again.
On the surface, it’s a pretty standard squad-based cover shooter for a franchise I do not care about at all. However, the thing that got me interested, and others at the time, was the story twists, which no one could have seen coming.
