“This Could Be It!” It Looks Like The Last of Us Part 3 Will Not Happen

Well, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like The Last of Us Part 3 will not happen.

The Last of Us is an immensely popular series of survival horror games. Made by Naughty Dog (the folks responsible for Crash Bandicoot and the Uncharted series) and starting back in 2013, it took the gaming scene by storm. Countless players joined in to help Joel and Ellie in their ordeals. The series has two main titles, and both of them have a Metacritic score greater than 90, which speaks volumes. The game proved so popular that it even got a live-action series, which was generally well-received by the fans. The second season of the series will soon be released, and the fans are wondering if we will get a third game. Will there be a The Last of Us Part 3? We may have some bad news for you.

The Last of Us Part 3 Will Not Happen, According to the Game’s Creative Director

In a recent Variety interview with Niel Druckmann (writer and creative director of Naughty Dog) and Craig Mazin (writer, director, and producer, a co-creater of The Last of Us television series), they both talked about Season 2 of The Last of Us TV series. During all of that, the Variety interviewer smuggled in a question about whether the third part for The Last of Us video game is in the works. Druckmann had this to answer:

“I was waiting for this question. I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

Surprisingly, the fans took it pretty well. “Frankly, I don’t see how a “Part 3” could even really work given how 2 ended. What else is there to do with Ellie, really?” asked Gorotheninja, and “I’m very much of the opinion that TLOU didn’t need a follow up or a sequel to begin with, it just never really made sense for a sequel to even happen, at least imo. I also can’t blame Druckman and ND wanting to shelf this franchise, after the nuclear bomb sized amount of criticism and backlash the sequel received, “ added SatisfactionRude6501.

All in all, it looks like the franchise is done, at least concerning the video games. But who knows? Maybe the second Season of the TV series proves way too popular and makes the devs reconsider their decision. Or maybe it’s best to quit while they’re ahead.
