One of the standout indie games in the last few years is the macabre title Cult of the Lamb, which balances fast-paced dungeon crawling action with some well-layered base building. Fans seem to have connected with the game’s dark sense of humor, as well as the quality gameplay, ever since its release.
Now fans will have a whole new way to show their devotion to the lamb overlords, as this cult-favorite title is getting its very own board game. Developer Massive Monster and publisher Devolver Digital are making Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game, hoping to recreate some of the most iconic aspects of the video game, but in tabletop form.
While players only control the titular lamb normally, in Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game, up to four players choose from one of four characters: the Lamb, the Goat, the Owl, or the Snake. Then, all players compete to amass their very own cult and prove they have the most devoted followers.
Each player will have an opportunity to go on dungeon-based adventures to battle heretics and earn some powerful upgrades, before facing off against the bishops of the Old Faith for “massive victory point rewards.”
This is then followed up with the “base phase,” where each player assigns their followers to work, worship, or wander. All helping them to build up resources and faith, getting ever closer to that crucial win.
It all sounds like a great translation of what made the digital version so addictive, and the team at Massive Monster has likely poured just as much detail and humor into this version of the game as well. If all the DLC for Cult of the Lamb is any indication (like the upcoming Woolhaven expansion), this is a team that gives every shred of energy when creating something.
If fans want to make Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game, they had better get ready to pray at the altar of the crowdfunding gods, as the game is coming to Kickstarter in November.
