From missing audio to poor optimization, the divers are angry.

It seems like most of the good will surrounding Helldivers 2 that arrived with the game’s Xbox launch last week, all thanks to a new update.

Today’s new update, “Into the Unjust,” has apparently and unjustly made the game tough to run for many players, with some calling it “borderline unplayable” after the update has seemingly made game performance worse.

Helldivers 2 players have come together to lambast the new update, which is causing numerous bugs such as weapon audio cutting out, which is a big problem for certain weapons with audio cues, or for players who are focusing on combat and may not realize they’re out of ammo.

“You guys have audio?’ one player joked. “I am on PC and I just lose ALL audio for anything from 5 up 20 seconds, it’s really random but seems to happen whenever a lot of explosions and gas are present.”

Another player claimed that their FPS drops from 120 to 15 during a bug breach, which is obviously a problem, but what’s worse is yet another gamer said that their PC would freeze upon that same occurrence. Other complaints include CPU spikes and game crashes when loading, so it appears that this update may need to be addressed soon.

“Arrowhead needs to focus on optimization and bug fixes, or else they’ll find themselves running out of community goodwill and player numbers will drop,” another player opined. “We can only understand up to a certain point. I’d be happy to stop receiving content for a while as long as the issues with the game are getting fixed. New content is cool, but if I can’t do anything with it I don’t really want it.”

“I was excited to get into a dive on a Hive World and yet I spent 30 seconds just now frozen in the character walkout segment when you open the game,” one more diver complained. “Then the first time a breach happens I get crackling audio and the game hitches over and over.  This isn’t acceptable. A game can’t survive in this state. I think AH needs to get their priorities straight if they want the long term profits they imagine over the short term ones that they are realizing.”

As of publishing this article, it’s been around eight hours since the update launched, but Arrowhead is likely well aware of the issues that it’s caused.
