Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered studio Aspyr has said no AI was used for the game’s newly-released content.
Last week, Aspyr released a free new Challenge Mode update for Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered, which included unlockable outfits for Lara along with difficulty customisation options and more.
However, soon after its debut, this update was met with a wave of criticism online, with many suggesting the new outfits were created with AI. Recent Steam reviews include “I don’t want to play Slop Raider”, “revert the patch, don’t leave this game in this state”, and “this game was amazing before the bull challenge update”, to quote just a handful.
Aspyr has now released its own statement on Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered patch and subsequent feedback, denying the use of AI generated assets in the update.
“We hear and appreciate your feedback regarding the recent Challenge Mode update for Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered. Our top priority is the delivery of a patch that will fix the texture issues and technical bugs. In addition, a series of updates are on the way to address a variety of technical issues across all platforms,” Aspyr wrote.
“This is also an opportunity to correct some mistaken information: The outfits in the update were created by our team of artists; no Al generated assets were used in the update. We’ll release more details on the patch content and timing as soon as possible.”
The studio closed by thanking its Tomb Raider fans for their “patience and support” as it seeks to regain some favour with the community, though many in the comments remain unconvinced by the studio’s claims.
On its original release back in 2024, we awarded Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered four stars, while acknowledging some of its dated qualities.
“I still love this collection, because it’s carefully made and lovingly updated, but also awkward, elbowy, frustrating and prone to leaving me stuck. It’s a collection that understands that Tomb Raider was absolutely a game about its controls, and it still should be – even if it doesn’t quite know how to deliver on that,” Christian Donlan wrote in his Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered review.
