“Ultimate Weapons Rebalance and Non-Attribute Descendant Buffs” The Devs Answer the First Batch of Questions in the Ongoing The First Descendant AMA Session

The April AMA session is ongoing, and The First Descendant devs answer the first batch of questions.

A couple of days ago, Nexon announced that a new Ask Me Anything session will go live, and that it will last for about six days. While AMA sessions are a great way to interact with the devs and have some of your questions answered (hopefully), they also suffered a backlash, due to some parts of the community having issues with the session being Discord-only. Regardless, the session is ongoing, and the devs will answer fan questions during their working hours. Let’s see what has been going on until now.

The Devs Answer the First Batch of Questions in the Ongoing The First Descendant AMA Session

The devs opened up by saying that they are aware of Serena’s power, especially when her fourth Skill is considered. “After considering various feedback and the overall game balance, we have decided not to proceed with numerical adjustments at this time. Instead, to prepare for a potential future implementation of a health growth system, we will set an upper limit on gun damage scaling with HP.”

To make gun-based and skill-based Descendants more balanced with each other, they plan to implement these changes:

  • In May: Skill users’ effectiveness will be further enhanced in the Void Erosion Purge to improve parity with gun users.
  • In May: The Arche Tuning Socket item will be introduced to enhance skill users’ performance.
  • In June: An External Core update will be added to allow further growth in HP, DEF, and Shield stats.

They continue by listing various Descendant changes, new features, and improvements that will be implemented in Season 3:

  • Season 3: Introduction of new Passive Skills selectable by Descendants.
  • Mid-Season 3: Expansion of additional Reactor Enhancement stages.
  • Mid-Season 3: Introduction of a new Module System with randomized stat options.
  • Season 3 and beyond: Gradual rollout of endgame content centered around skill dealers, as well as content that allows diverse successor types to participate.

Questions and Answers

Ultimate Weapon Rebalance

As for the fan questions, one fan asked whether some Ultimate weapons will get any attention, as it looks like a lot of them have simply been left behind. Minseok Joo replied: “First, we apologize for not being able to address this issue more quickly. The development team is aware that certain ultimate weapons have become noticeably imbalanced following the Core system update, and we consider this a high-priority issue. We are currently preparing a full rebalance of ultimate weapons, with a focus on buffing those with underperforming stats. However, we are approaching this carefully to avoid raising the overall power baseline too much or causing abrupt shifts in the core meta.”

We all know that the game can boil down to using only a couple of weapons, and it is a shame that the majority is left behind, so it’s great that the devs are preparing a general rebalance of Ultimate Weapons as well. Hopefully, it will go better than the Descendant rebalance.

Research Improvements

Moving on, when asked whether there will be an option to research multiple Crystallization Catalysts, the devs answered that it is not planned. However, something similar is in the works: “…in Season 3, we are preparing content that will allow you to slightly reduce research time through ‘specific activities’.”

Non-Attribute Descendants

Finally, one user asked whether something will be done about Non-Attribute Descendants and the fact that they can’t deal elemental damage (via Skills, as using the same weapons can get stale quickly), which is essential in Void Erosion Purges and the like. On that, Minseok Joo said: “As previously mentioned, the first phase of skill user improvements will further enhance their performance in Void Erosion Purge. As part of this, we are also planning additional buffs for Descendants without attribute advantage—for example, non-attribute Descendants.”

As a bonus, yes, the devs confirmed that Serena will get a bikini skin as well.

There, this is only the first batch of questions, as the AMA sessions will last for a couple of days. Stay tuned for more answers.
