The most highly anticipated feature is finally here! Pokemon GO has enabled Remote Trade, and if players want to learn how to enjoy this feature to the fullest, they will have to become more than just friends with their fellow trainers.
Learn all about the new Remote Trade feature in Pokemon GO, as well as how to unlock it, what benefits it entails, and how many Remote Trades are available per day.
Pokemon GO: How To Start & Join Weekly Challenges
You can participate in the Pokemon GO Weekly Challenges with your remote friends and get rewards like Stardust, XP, and more.
Pokemon GO Remote Trade Feature Explained
To unlock Remote Trade in Pokemon GO, players will need to reach the new Max Level of Friendship with some of their contacts: ‘Forever Friends.’ This new max level of friendship, besides the usual XP rewards, adds two new bonuses for Trainers who have maxed it out:
- Players will instantly unlock a Remote Trade with their Forever Friend. This will count as their first Remote Trade and is expended upon use.
- Interacting with each other (Party Play, Gifts, Raids, etc) will add more Friendship Points, which will grant rewards like XP, and additional Remote Trade charges.
- Players can only have one Remote Trade available with each Forever Friend, and they should expend that trade before earning more Frienship Points, since they won’t be able to accumulate more.
- Friendship Points are limited to one per day, per friend. But there are additional Friendship Points that can be earned by participating in Weekly Challenges.
- Weekly challenges allow players to team up with up to three other Trainers from their Friend List, no matter where they are, to take on a group challenge each week. Players can earn rewards, including XP and additional friendship points.
To start a Remote Trade in Pokemon GO, players will first need to mark Pokemon with a Special Tag which then will become visible for all their Forever Friends. Other players who have reached max Friendship with the trainer can see the tagged Pokemon, and will be able to request a Remote Trade.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Trade Requests
Players can find other people to trade with in this Pokemon TCG Pocket trade request thread.
Players will be able to select up to three Pokemon from their friends’ Remote Trade Pokemon Tagged List, and this sort of ‘Wishlist‘ will be sent back to the Original Trainer. The other trainer, in turn, responds by selecting three tagged Pokemon from their friends’ box.
As a final step, the system will check if they want to trade or not. Confirmation will enable the trade, while players can cancel at any given time if they feel the need to.
To celebrate this new feature, there will be a new Timed Research opportunity available to all Trainers starting Monday, December 15, at 10:00 AM to Monday, December 29, 2025, at 8 PM local time. Rewards include
All Pokemon Banned From Remote Trades (Cannot Be Traded)
The following Pokemon cannot be tagged for Remote trade, thus making it impossible (for the moment) to trade with your Friends:
- Pokemon caught in the last 30 days
- Previously traded Pokemon
- Shadow Pokemon
- Mythical Pokemon
- Pokemon defending Gyms or Power Spots
- Pokemon currently set as a buddy
- Actively Mega-Evolved Pokemon
- Fused Pokemon
- Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta
- Pokemon placed at Pokemon Playgrounds
Be mindful of these limitations when the time comes to execute a Remote Trade with your friends. It is also worth noting that all Remote Trades will automatically trigger a Lucky Trade if players have reached Lucky status with their friends. Once this happens, players won’t be able to have another Lucky Trade with the same trainer.
