Everyone loves lazing around the house with their Steam Deck, but one of its best uses is for traveling. We’ve all been stuck at an airport at some point, or on a long and boring flight. Is there a better way to pass the time than enjoying a game you love? We’d argue there isn’t, but it’s important to be prepared.
Steam Deck User Shares Their Concerns
Some users are anxious to bring their device while traveling. There are plenty of concerns about safety and logging in when you’re in a new country. One of those users, Healthy_Elephant_846, asked the community to help them out as they were traveling to Germany soon and were unsure of what to do with their Steam Deck.
The OP noted: “Hey everyone, I’m planning to travel to Germany for a month and bringing my Steam Deck with me. I have a few concerns and was hoping someone with experience could help me out”.
This Steam Deck user posed some important questions. First of all, they wanted to know would logging into Steam in another country get them flagged. Speaking from personal experience, and many Steam Deck users confirmed, you won’t be flagged for signing in another country.
The second question was about security. Should you just stay offline for the entire trip, instead of connecting to a wi-fi? Well, we suggest you research where you are going and if you’ll have the opportunity to connect to a secure network. Of course, it’s always good to have some offline games to keep you company, in case you can’t connect to the internet.
Finally, this player had a Germany-specific question. They wondered would the age restriction laws interfere with their library. Once again, in our experience, your Steam library is yours and you shouldn’t experience any problems.
One Steam Deck user added: “Also just wanna add the age restriction thing is way tamer than you think. It was a problem for like 2 days and now I barely see games that aren’t available for that reason anymore. Usually, it’s just new indie devs that didn’t notice they have to do an extra step”.

Some Extra Tips for Traveling With Your Device
Let’s start with safety. Be aware of where you are going and keep an eye on your things. Sounds kind of pessimistic, but it’s also good to have a general idea of what you should do if your device gets stolen. Also, if you end up losing your Steam Deck, it might find its way back to you.
As for your Steam Deck, maybe research some power-friendly games, if you are going to be traveling for a long time. Also, even though you shouldn’t have any trouble with buying games when abroad, install your favorites ahead of time.
One user, siamesekiwi, noted: “You can still buy games outside your country when you’re traveling. I did just that when I traveled from SEA to Europe and I didn’t have any issues. As long as you have a valid method of payment for that country’s store, Valve doesn’t really care where you physically are as long as you’re not using a VPN”.
Finally, as with any other device, you should always research what kind of power adapter you need before visiting a foreign country. Once again, speaking from unfortunate experience, people often overlook this detail. It’s more fun to relax and play a game on a fully-charged Steam Deck than to search for a power adapter in a foreign city.
We’d also like to remind you to remember that your Steam Deck can be used for more than gaming. So, it can be quite useful in a bunch of situations. Now that you have everything covered, you can enjoy your trip and have a good time.
