Demon Slayer‘s first season did a great job of making the franchise so popular. Tanjiro’s transformation from a young charcoal seller into one of the most powerful swordsmen in the series is simply extraordinary.

The sheer ways this character has improved since the first season are worth a mention. The protagonist has overcome numerous challenges to become one of the most powerful combatants in the series, who can amass all the grit and courage in his bones to duke it out with the series’ strongest demons.

Developing Sun Breathing

The Breathing Style Most Natural To His Swordsmanship Skills

While Tanjiro whips out Sun Breathing for the first time during his battle against Rui, it is far from a perfect Breathing Style. He couldn’t channel the power of his natural power at will and needed to train for a long period before finally becoming more competent at using this style.

Eventually, by the time the Swordsmith Village arc arrived, he could channel most of his natural Breathing Style’s moves without too many issues. Fans can’t wait to see how Sun Breathing evolves in the Infinity Castle, where he’s bound to push himself to new heights.

Manifesting His Demon Slayer Mark

Allowed Him To Unlock New Levels Of Power

Tanjiro can be rather reckless at times, putting himself in situations where he’ll place himself in the path of grievous harm time and time again. During one such moment against Daki, Tanjiro experienced a burst of power when he managed to awaken his Demon Slayer Mark for a short span of time.

This mark has aided him in multiple high-stakes battles, giving him the power he needs to behead the members of the Upper Rank Demon Moons. As his mastery over this mark grows, the toughest Upper Rank demons around will find Tanjiro to be a tough human to deal with.

Becoming More Experienced In Slaying Demons

He Was Eventually Able To Duke It Out With The Powerful Demon Moons

There was a time when Tanjiro quivered in his boots at the very sight of a demon. However, he managed to hone his skills over time and cut down powerful demons as he used his Water Breathing style to wreak havoc.

By the time he faced Rui, Tanjiro had become decently experienced when it came to dealing with these monsters. Faceoffs against Enmu, the duo of Daki & Gyutaro, and Hantengu’s multiple personalities have ensured that he can be confident enough to deal with the series’ hardest foes, although this experience will be tested heavily during the Infinity Castle arc.

Training With The Hashira

Helped Him Fight On The Same Level As These Powerful Swordsmen

The Hashira are some of the most powerful swordsmen in the world of Demon Slayer. Their combat skills are second to none, which is why Tanjiro relished the opportunity to train with the very best.

The Hashira Training arc was monumental for this character, allowing him to hone his physical skills and fight on the same level as Demon Slayer‘s toughest swordsmen. This is something that Giyu silently acknowledged when he teamed up with the protagonist to fight against Akaza, with Tanjiro fighting on the same level as him and pushing Akaza against the ropes multiple times.

Mastering Total Concentration: Constant

Allowed Him To Improve His Skills And Reach New Heights

After barely surviving against Rui, Tanjiro and his allies were instructed to master Total Concentration: Constant. Controlling their breathing and making it forceful enough to break a gourd is not a simple task.

However, Tanjiro’s grit and dedication ensured that he would be able to reach this level and eventually master Total Concentration: Constant with ample training and meditation. It helped him hone his skills enough to tackle the series’ strongest demons.

Being Able To Smell The Future

A Unique Predictive Ability That Honed His Movement And Reflexes

One of the odder abilities unlocked by Tanjiro was his ability to smell the future during the Swordsmith Village. His nose is one of the strongest tools at his disposal, allowing him to locate threats and uncover certain solutions.

In this case, smelling the future allows his senses to be sharper in combat, allowing him to predict opponent movements and change his strategy accordingly. It’s a bizarre power, yet one that is perfectly in line with a dedicated oddball like Tanjiro.

Manifesting The Bright Red Nichirin Sword

An Important Step That Was Required To Duke It Out With The Upper Rank Demon Moons

A byproduct of the Demon Slayer Mark is the ability to manifest a Bright Red Nichirin Sword that is so heated up that it can prevent demons from regenerating. This is something Hantengu realizes firsthand when what should’ve been a trivial injury ended up taking way longer to regenerate.

By manifesting this blade, Tanjiro can nullify one of the biggest strengths in a powerful demon’s arsenal and make sure that they’re down for the count. One can only hope that his Bright Red Nichirin Sword reaches Yoriichi’s levels of potency, with the scars left behind by this demon slayer being so potent that Muzan still hasn’t been able to heal them.

Awakening The Transparent World

Integral To Help Tanjiro Take Out Akaza In A Hellacious Battle

During his fight against Akaza, Tanjiro needed to unlock a new level of power to defeat one of the strongest foes he’d ever encountered. As the battle continued, Tanjiro realized that he had awakened the Transparent World, making him ultra-focused in battle.

It allowed him to move a flash, to the point where even a martial artist expert like Akaza wasn’t able to discern his movements. Unlocking the Transparent World is what ultimately allowed him to behead Akaza and take out the heinous villain for good, avenging Rengoku in the process.
