The Helldivers 2 community celebrated the first anniversary on February 8. The players had quite high expectations for this important date, but many of them were left wishing for more. Sure, the first episode of the Chronicles of J.O.E.L aired, and the players received shiny armor, but the majority of the players hoped for something big story-wise. However, the anniversary Major Order didn’t really deliver what the Helldivers 2 players were hoping for.
Helldivers Have to Fend Off the Illuminate for the Major Order
The new Major Order arrived on February 8. As always, the developers issued a briefing alongside, that provided some insight into what was actually happening with the Meridia black hole/wormhole/Singularity.
The briefing confirmed that the Meridian Singularity was, in fact, moving. If it stays on its current course, it’ll reach Angel’s Venture. The briefing explained: “Over the past weeks, the Ministry of Science has shed light on the Illuminate’s plans. They appear to be attacking our worlds for the sole purpose of gathering Dark Energy. Now, we know why: Dark Energy must somehow be powering the motion of the Singularity”.
Thus, the more Dark Energy the Illuminate collect, the faster the Singularity will move. In other words, Helldivers have to fend off the attacks as quickly as possible, so that the Squids won’t get the chance to gather Dark Energy.
So, the Major Order is quite simple, Helldivers need to fend off Illuminate attacks as fast as they can. They were given five days to defend against 11 attacks. At the time of writing this article, almost a day after the MO was issued, three of the Illuminate attacks were already foiled, and Seasse is under attack.
Helldivers 2 Players Expected More for the Anniversary
Sure, they will do their duty, but some Helldivers 2 players weren’t too thrilled with the anniversary Major Order. With all of the rumors floating around lately, the expectations were quite high, so some players felt let down when they received another “filler” MO.
Opposite-Flamingo-41 noted: “I sincerely hope there is more. A 6 GB patch, big date and we see filler MO about defending planets(and basic armor reskin, yay). If I recall correctly HD1 received a trident on its first anniversary”.
We know that this Major Order might be disappointing. It’s entirely possible that it was due to the issues with the PSN. For almost a full day, the PlayStation Network was down worldwide, so, it would be quite cruel for the developers to exclude a big chunk of the community from a Special Event.
Still, don’t get your hopes too high that the Major Order will get interrupted now that the PSN issues are resolved. After all, Helldiver’s job is to spread Managed Democracy, not to hope or ask questions. We’ll be doing so on Seasse, will you join us? For Liberty and Super Earth.
