“We’ll Always Save the Kids” Chronicles of J.O.E.L Episode 2 Brings Back Some Fond Memories to Helldivers 2 Players

It’s here! The long-awaited second episode of Chronicles of J.O.E.L has just been posted on the official Helldivers 2 YouTube channel. In the latest episode, J.O.E.L recalls their favorite moment in the game’s history. Unsurprisingly, it’s when Helldivers chose children over AT mines. We wouldn’t dare expect anything less than that from J.O.E.L.

Episode 2 Reflects on a Wholesome Moment in the Helldivers 2 Community

As you probably know, Helldivers 2 celebrated its first anniversary on February 8. Developers chose to commemorate this occasion by releasing the first episode of a new series – Chronicles of J.O.E.L. This show was an instant hit, and players impatiently waited for the next episode.

Well, it’s finally here! Episode 2 of Chronicles of J.O.E.L dropped on February 25. It’s called The Children’s Hospital. In this episode, J.O.E.L reflects on one of the proudest moments for all Helldivers 2 players, the moment when a Major Order made them choose between saving the sick children on Vernen Wells and liberating Marfark and getting AT mines.

J.O.E.L explains that at that moment it became “abundantly clear” what the Galactic War could accomplish. J.O.E.L goes on to provide more details and remind the community of the context. So, before the MO when the Helldivers chose children, they lost out on the AT mines in another MO, where they chose the Airburst Rockets.

So, when the MO gave the Helldivers a choice between saving sick children or getting the AT mines, no one expected the Helldivers to choose the former. Not even Helldivers themselves expected the community would go that way. However, things escalated quickly, and the whole community united and saved the children.

J.O.E.L noted: “Doing the right thing became overwhelmingly the community sentiment”. This inspired the developers to do the right thing, as well. Arrowhead donated $4311.00 to the Save the Children Fund. And yes, J.O.E.L confirmed that 4311 spells out hell. As for the AT mines, Helldivers did get them eventually, but the meme remained, and players even tried to revive it a couple of times.

J.O.E.L Reminded the Helldivers of Some Good Times

We’d like to start off by saying that we truly think the Helldivers 2 community is awesome. Players are supportive and often work together to reach a common goal. Their decision to save the children was just a cherry on top. However, as it turned out, Arrowhead’s donation inspired many Helldivers to donate as well.

Many players noted they were extremely proud to have participated in that event. Some players noted that they were still donating to the Save the Children Fund, months after the MO, which is simply wonderful. It shows you just how impactful good deeds can be.

Of course, players still hope for one thing – a cape that would commemorate this major win. MrLayZboy stated: “This was a great moment for the community and the Galactic War. Wish we’d gotten a “children’s cape” like some people designed, or the paper drawing put on the ship somewhere”.

We’d love to see Arrowhead do something similar in the future, and by the massively positive reaction of the community, the majority of players would agree. In the meantime, let’s help out the botdivers finally liberate Martale. For Liberty and Super Earth.
