Who would have guessed that the new Major Order would raise the dust around a topic that hasn’t been discussed for months? As you know, depending on which Objective the community completes, a new “Bay” (upgrade) would be added to the DSS. However, this MO and the lack of an update triggered an unexpected outrage. The newly introduced DSS Bays only reminded the Helldivers 2 players that there hasn’t been much new content, or any new Ship Modules for… a while.
Helldivers 2 Players Are Craving New Content
It’s been so long, and so many things have happened in the meantime that, at this point, we can say veterans will remember when the devs previously added the Ship Modules. The devs added the Level 5 Ship Modules all the way back on July 4, 2024.
At the time of writing this article, it’s been more than nine months, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed. Captain Talon noted: “There has been more time since the last wave of Ship Modules than it takes for a new human to come into existence in the world”.
Of course, Ship Modules are (or rather were) great sinks for the players’ resources. However, since it’s been so long, many players have been maxed out for months. In other words, thousands of players haven’t received Medals from completed MOs, Samples from looting, or even Requisitions.

Why Haven’t There Been Any New Ship Modules for Nine Months?
So, the lack of content aside, why haven’t the Helldivers 2 devs added any Ship Modules for so long? There are several possible answers to this question. But, most likely, the full answer is the combination of all the smaller factors.
Pricing is probably one of the bigger factors. Some players deemed the previous batch not-worth-the-resources. If the devs kept up with the trends and upped the pricing on the next batch, many players wouldn’t consider the benefits worth the price. Except if the devs decide on a new branch rather than higher tiers?
Also, the devs created the DSS as a sort of new sink for the resources. The only problem is that the players find the DSS forgettable, so they don’t spend a lot on it. Maybe the devs’ idea was to introduce the new “Bays” instead of Ship Modules? That would probably mean they were done with the ship upgrades.
We’ve dug around a little, and we found probably one of the most recent mentions of Ship Modules by a dev. Back in December, Sephez wrote: “… I personally don’t think we’ve fully reached the potential of the ship modules yet”.

So, at least we can safely say that the devs haven’t completely forgotten about the Ship Modules. Unfortunately, there is no way of telling if or when they’ll add some new ones. Now, the devs are definitely working on something big, there have even been leaks of new levels. So it isn’t impossible that they could add the Ship Modules as well.
The question remains – how will they execute the new Modules? We’ll all just have to wait and see. In the meantime, we can contribute by doing what we do best – fighting the enemies. Join us on Varylia 5. For Liberty and Super Earth.
