The Frostspore Whale Shark is one of the rarest and most exciting catches introduced during Heartopia’s Winter Frost Season. Unlike standard Frostspore Fish, this legendary winter creature does not spawn naturally while fishing in the Old Sea.

To catch the Frostspore Whale Shark, you need to do a lot of preparation beforehand. If you want to complete your winter fish collection, this guide walks you through everything you need to know to unlock and catch the Frostspore Whale Shark in Heartopia.

How to Unlock Frostspore Whale Shark

The Frostspore Whale Shark is a legendary-tier event fish exclusive to the Winter Frost Season. Unlike other Frostspore Fish, the Whale Shark cannot be caught through regular fishing alone. It only appears during a specific phase of the Frostspore Fishing Event.

As such, you need to unlock Frostspore Fishing Events before you can catch the Frostspore Whale Shark. To do this, head to Onsen Mountain and speak with Vanya, the Fishing Hobby mentor.

During the Winter Frost Event, she relocates to the north beach. When you talk to her, choose one of the first two dialogue options related to the Winter Frost Season. Vanya will give you a short quest focused on the strange frozen waters surrounding Heartopia.

Once you complete this quest, Frostspore Fishing Events become available on your server. These events are free to join and begin daily at 6 PM (server time).

How to Catch Frostspore Whale Shark

The Frostspore Whale Shark can only appear during an active Frostspore Fishing Event in the Old Sea, near Onsen Mountain.

However, the Whale Shark does not spawn in every event. During the fishing session, there is a chance for a special “Lucky” extra phase to trigger. When this happens, a message will appear on the screen stating that there is “hidden movement in the water.”

This message is what you need to wait for. If you don’t see it, the Frostspore Whale Shark will not spawn during that event, no matter how long you fish.

Make sure you have sufficient space in your backpack and sufficient food for energy before you go fishing for the Frostspore Whale Shark.

Once the Lucky phase begins, the Frostspore Whale Shark has a random chance to spawn among the available fish shadows. It uses a very large shadow, making it easier to identify compared to other event fish.

Using Mermaid Fish Attractors and Perfume can both increase your chances of catching the Frostspore Whale Shark during the limited Lucky phase.

Even with perfect preparation, this fish is extremely rare, so don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t appear right away.
