Stardew Valley’s deep and dangerous mines are home to a diverse collection of minerals and gemstones. Each of these gems has its own unique charm and uses. Among these precious treasures, Topaz
stands out as a popular gem sought after by beginner and seasoned players.
Topaz is a fairly common bright yellow-colored stone that’s prized for its beauty. It is one of the eight gems that players can discover while mining in Stardew Valley. Topaz can be donated to Gunther at the Museum for rewards. This guide comprises everything players need to know about finding Topaz in Stardew Valley.
Updated April 24, 2025, by Artur Novichenko: Even though Topaz is a fairly common mineral in Stardew Valley, it is still valued for its beauty. So if you want to gift it, most characters will like Topaz. The exceptions are Pierre, Linus, and Leah, who dislike this mineral.

Where to Find Topaz in Stardew Valley
Players need Topaz to complete several quests and bundles. Thankfully, there are a few different ways they can get their hands on this gemstone in the game.
Topaz Nodes
Topaz Nodes are commonly available on any floor of the Mines. Players can even find them inside the Skull Cavern and Quarry. To get Topaz, all players have to do is break these nodes with a Pickaxe.
Gem Nodes
Alternatively, players can break Gem Nodes that can easily be found on all floors of the Mines. These purple-looking rocks contain all kinds of precious gemstones, such as Topaz, Ruby, Emerald, Amethyst, Jade, or Aquamarine.
Gem nodes are also found in the Skull Cavern, Quarry, and Volcano Dungeon. The chances of a player finding Gem Nodes increase based on their Daily Luck and Mining Skill Level.
Monster Drops
Topaz can also be obtained by killing monsters, namely the Dwarvish Sentry. This dangerous enemy is found in the Volcano Dungeon and has a 10% chance of dropping a Topaz stone when killed.
Fishing Treasure Chests
There is a 4% chance for players to find 1-4 Topaz stones inside Fishing Treasure Chests. However, they must have a Fishing Level 2+ and must fish in a Fishing Zone of 2 or less value.
Panning
In Stardew Valley, a Copper Pan is used to collect ores and gather rare gems from different water bodies. There is a 1.6% chance for players to find Topaz by panning. They can increase their chance of finding this gem by consuming different food buffs.
Garbage Cans
Interestingly, players can sometimes find Topaz in different Garbage Cans placed all around Pelican Town. However, this method is entirely random and isn’t a reliable source for obtaining the gem. To search inside a garbage can, players simply need to right-click on it.
How to Use Topaz
Topaz is also one of the options for completing the Treasure Hunter’s Bundle. Also, you can throw it into the forge to increase the defense of your weapons. At the same time, players who prefer to organize their wardrobe can use Topaz with the Sewing Machine and sew a unique Shirt.
Also, you should not forget about quests. Some of them strictly require Topaz in Stardew Valley, while others can do the same with some probability. Here are all the quests for which you may need this yellow mineral:
- The Raccoon may ask you to find three Topaz, so we recommend saving this resource.
- The “Help Wanted” board can request Topaz from you in exchange for Gold and Friendship points.
- Players can use it for the Gem Birds puzzle on Ginger Island.
- “Rock Rejuvenation” special order requires one Topaz.
- For one of the Fish Pond quests, players may need two Topaz.
Minerals in Stardew Valley are valuable resources. Therefore, even common Topaz will help you in creating friendly relations with the inhabitants. It is also useful for completing quests, so we have added all the ways to use the mineral to this guide.
