Summary
- The Blade of the Primus, a key weapon in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, never became a transmoggable item, disappointing fans.
- The expansion excelled in transmogs overall, but players feel it missed the mark by not allowing them to use the runeblade.
- Hope remains as old items have become transmoggable years after their initial appearance, like the Aegis of Aggramar.
A World of Warcraft fan playing through old Shadowlands content just pointed out how odd it is that the Blade of the Primus never became a transmoggable item. Though the runeblade had a unique model and a major role in the story, World of Warcraft never took the opportunity to actually turn it into a transmog for players to use.
Few World of Warcraft expansions are as divisive as Shadowlands, its otherworldly update that ran for two years starting in November 2020. That said, despite its flaws, there is one place where most gamers agree Shadowlands excelled: transmogs.

World of Warcraft Has Good News for Tanks
Protection Warriors, Guardian Druids, and other tanks in World of Warcraft: The War Within receive some fantastic news from Blizzard.
However, there are a few places where the expansion missed the mark on transmogs as well. Redditor and WoW fan Old_Ratbeard pointed out one such place on the World of Warcraft subreddit recently. While playing through Shadowlands, Old_Ratbeard was disappointed to find the Blade of the Primus never became a collectible transmog. Despite having a major role in the story, and having a unique model with a cool design, World of Warcraft players cannot actually wield the runeblade.
Missing Sword Transmogs from WoW: Shadowlands
The Blade of the Primus is a central part of the story of Maldraxxus in WoW: Shadowlands. Created as a contingency by the ruler of the realm, the Maw Walker must reforge the Blade of the Primus in order to enter the Seat of the Primus. Later, they use it to absorb and unleash necrotic power upon attacking foes, and can be seen holding the blade on multiple occasions. Despite this, fans never gain the ability to transmog this unique model at any point during the expansion, nor nearly five years later.
Needless to say, Old_Ratbeard was not the only person to be baffled by this decision. Many echoed the headline of the post on Reddit – “I played through Shadowlands and I’m so confused” – encapsulates many of the expansion’s issues. Others pointed out that the Blade of the Primus wasn’t the only sword Blizzard should have added to the game during the expansion, as Remornia, Sire Denathrius’ sentient sword from Castle Nathria in WoW: Shadowlands, likewise never appeared as a collectible transmog.
Nevertheless, hope is not completely lost for the Blade of the Primus. The Aegis of Aggramar was a shield that played a major role in World of Warcraft: Legion in 2016, but could not be used as a transmog until the expansion was added to Timewalking in 2021, where a replica became purchasable from the event vendor. Battle for Azeroth Timewalking is finally arriving in World of Warcraft on June 17, meaning Shadowlands will ostensibly be the next expansion to be added to the event. If players are lucky, perhaps they might finally be able to collect the Blade of the Primus when and if that happens.
