Wuchang Fallen Feathers: How to Use Maddening Incense

Wuchang Fallen Feathers: How to Use Maddening Incense

Wuchang Fallen Feathers features a unique Madness mechanic that grants players increased damage output in exchange for increased damage received. It’s meant for players who’re good at timing their dodges and prefer playing soulslike titles with a glass cannon build. Although your Madness gets raised bit by bit every time you die in-game, you can instead use the Maddening Incense to raise it up quickly.

Best Wuchang Fallen Feathers Boss Order

Wuchang Fallen Feathers features hard boss battles that will put a player’s skill to the test, here’s the best order in which you should tackle them.

How to Get & Use Maddening Incense in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Players will get the Maddening Incense after finishing the tutorial by facing Bai Kru in the Dream Sequence in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. This encounter happens after players first visit the Revenant Temple and talk to the Boatman sitting outside it. After getting the Maddening Incense, they’re introduced to the Madness mechanic and how it’s both a blessing and a curse.

It’s a consumable item that can use the Maddening Incense both in the inventory menu and through their quick-use item slot. Using it once will raise Wuchang’s Madness by 50%, and another use will max it out. Since players only get the Madness abilities after maxing it out, using the item once is safe to do.

It also prevents any Madness loss over time, so this should pair well with any builds that you’ve made centered around this mechanic, including skills that activate only after a certain threshold of Madness is crossed, i.e., 50% or 90%.

When you rest at a shrine or die out in the field, Maddening Incense will be restocked in your inventory, similar to Temper and Mana Flasks. So, feel free to experiment with this item and test how much benefit this item gives.

How to Increase the Effects & Charges of Maddening Incense

At the start of the game, players will have access to only 2 charges of the Maddening Incense in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. However, once you get enough Red Mercury Essence, you can invest it in the Rising Madness skill to increase the maximum Maddening Incense charges.

If you’re benefiting from using this consumable item, you can try investing your Red Mercury Essence into Prolonged Madness. This skill allows the effects of Maddening Essence to be active for longer, giving you additional time with your preferred Madness level.

Players can also manually raise madness by claiming items in the invoke tab at a shrine. It’s a great way to farm essential consumables for your journey.
