Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has several introductory quests that can be tricky to complete. Considering the complexity of quests like The Probe-Fessional, it is understandable if players feel a little bit lost.

Here’s a rundown on how Overdrive works in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, covering everything from basic activation to powerful combos.
But they shouldn’t worry, since this guide has all the information needed to complete The Probe-Fessional mission and an introductory tutorial on how to operate Probes in Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Xenoblade Chronicles X How To Start The Probe-Fessional
To trigger this mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, players will have to talk to Kirsty who is located at the BLADE Concourse, in the Administrative District of New Los Angeles. Once players talk to her, they can accept an introductory quest that will teach them about how to deploy Probes.
This quest is also important for players to learn how to activate Probes in different locations, how to link them, the different types of Probes they can find, and most importantly, how to increase survey rates in Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Once players have accepted the mission, they will need to do the following to complete Step 1:
- Install a data probe at FN Site 114 in Primordia, then deploy a Mining Probe G1.
- Install a data probe at FN Site 112 in Primordia, then deploy a Mining Probe G1.
- Use the segment map to change the data probe in Primordia’s FN Site 116 to a Mining Probe G1.

Nintendo and Monolith Soft’s latest reveal from Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition outlines the new story content being added.
Players should start with FN Site 112, which is a little bit east of NLA. Approach the designated area, press (A) and hold to install the probe. Then, they should look North and direct their attention to FN Site 114, repeat the same, install the probe and now proceed to swap the probes for a Mining Probe G1. Players need to access the Segment Map to complete this step.
To access the segment map press (Y) then (R) x2 to jump to the FrontierNav menu. There, select the Probe nodes highlighted in the map (once installed they will appear as hexagonal icons) then press (A) to Swap Data Probe. Now, in the new menu, select the ‘Mining Probe G1.’
Players can use Mining Probes to increase the amount of Miranium mined in the node. Several Mining Probes of the same type (G1, G2, etc.) can be linked to increase efficiency, which is displayed in a percentage value. Each linked probe increases efficiency up to 80%, but players should also keep in mind that Miranium storage has a limit capacity. For that, attach a Storage Probe to the chain of nodes to increase the capacity limit.
Go Back To Kirsty To Start Step II Of The Probe-Fessional
With these three objectives accomplished, players should teleport back to the BLADE Concourse and talk to Kristy again, both dialogue options will earn players a few affinity boost points, so depending on which one they pick, they will gain affinity with either Lin or Elma.
Now the next objective will be to install a new probe (in this case, a Research Probe G1) in the new node called FN Site 117, located in Primordia. Players can teleport back to Primodia’s FN Site 116, and run north from there (near the first spot you need to go to complete the Welcome Back Conner Mission) to reach the zone. Be careful with hostile indigenous above level 13, since the area is plagued with them.
Now, once in the designated area, interact with the node as players did with the previous ones, and then open the FrontierNav Menu once more to swap the probe to a Research Probe G1.

Mamma Mia is a fetch quest in Xenoblade Chronicles X – Definitive Edition, but the trick is to make sure that you purchase the right items.
A final step requires players to explore a designated location to survey the zone and mark it for BLADE’s Pathdinders Division. Open the map and look for a marked location called Rocky Cavern, which is a little bit North of where players activated the FN Site 117 probe.
Travel across the plains, then avoid creatures above the party’s level (there are a lot of aggressive level 28 and 30+ creatures around, so try to go during the day which is safer), once near the designated area, players will see a small pond with some rocks. Direct the camera to the rock wall overlooking the pond to find a small gap in the rock: the cave’s entrance.
Enter and explore a bit further to complete the objective, but don’t try to explore all the way in, since there are Lvl. 38 Indigenous that can wipe the entire party in a second if going unprepared (so much for a Level 3 Basic Mission).
Players can use Research Probes to increase the amount of Credits generated through the FrontierNav system each time the player discovers a Sightseeing Spot. The more Research Probes linked in the chain will augment the revenue generated. Research Probes effects will be amplified if players install Booster Probes or Duplicator Probes in the chain.
How To Complete The Probe-Fessional In Xenoblade Chronicles X
Now, having accomplished these two steps, the mission will be finally complete, and players will have learned about Node Synergies, and how different Probes deliver certain resources, Information, and other bonuses while active.
To complete The Probe-Fessional, players should return to Kirsty to receive their rewards: 4,000 Credits, 100 Exp, Mining Probe G2, Research Probe G2, and Storage Probe.
How to Find Research Probes In Xenoblade Chronicles X
Research Probes can be found in several ways throughout the adventure. The most common way to get more is as a reward from missions, such as The Probe-Fessional. But players can also obtain more Probes in the following ways:
- From Field Treasure nodes (especially those that require Mechanical skill).
- Listening To NPCs talks and tips.
- Completing more missions for Kristie.
