If there is one great thing about the digital age of gaming, it’s that players have more access than they ever did before, compared to the NES, Sega Saturn, PS2, and so on. That said, fans from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s never had to worry about their games disappearing because everything was physical.
8 Big PS5 Games That Are Officially Canceled
Could these PS5 games have been great, or were they canceled for a good reason? Here’s which titles will never see the light of day.
Even with physical games today, many of them have online functions or online experiences that will eventually get shut down one day. The following games could get axed from now until 2030, when the next PlayStation system should be here. From licensing issues like with Marvel Rivals to music rights like with Rocksmith+, let’s go through why these games could disappear digitally.

Marvel Rivals
On Top, For Now…
Any hero-based multiplayer shooter that launches against Overwatch is usually dead in the water upon launch, which makes Marvel Rivals an incredibly bizarre example. It launched strongly, and the fanbase has only grown since it debuted in 2024, with solid updates and character drops like Deadpool, who was one of the most recent.
It proved so popular that there was even a PS4 version made in 2025. Can the game survive until 2030 since it is a Marvel-licensed game? That’s where the cracks start to show, as licensed games tend to go away quicker.
2XKO
Doomed After A Month
2XKO is another spinoff from League of Legends from Riot Games, and this time it is a free-to-play 2D fighting game with switch tactics. It just launched in January 2026, and after a month, Riot Games came out to apologize that they had to downsize their team to make the game more sustainable.
This meant it wasn’t doing well enough to support a full staff, and that was only after a month, which could mean 2XKO may not even last a year, let alone until 2030. It’s a shame, too, because the character and level designs are great, not to mention the mechanics are solid for a fighting game.
Silent Hill: The Short Message
The Way Of P.T.
Silent Hill: The Short Message was released completely free in 2024 to drum up hype for the rebirth of the Silent Hill franchise. Later that year, the remake of Silent Hill 2 launched, dwarfing Silent Hill: The Short Message completely and even more when Silent Hill f was released a year after.
The Best PS5 Exclusives for Different Types of Players
If you’re looking for the next game to explore on your PlayStation 5, this list with a variety of great exclusives has you covered.
Silent Hill: The Short Message was also not that well received, as many fans thought it was an average first-person horror game that lacked combat, but had some good scares and visuals. Because the community doesn’t back it strongly and because Konami has already pulled a free Silent Hill game before, aka P.T., Silent Hill: The Short Message could vanish any day now.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate
The Fate For Turtles Is Always Grim
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is a top-down action roguelike made in the style of Hades, which was released in 2023. It’s not the best TMNT game ever made, but it’s a lot better than anyone could have predicted as a licensed game. Each turtle has a unique weapon and power set, and the campaign, while easier than most roguelikes, is still fun.
TMNT games disappear all the time because of the licenses wearing out, but hopefully, the game won’t meet an ill fate in 2030 digitally. Thankfully, there are physical copies at least.
Tetris Forever
Collecting The Best Puzzle Games
Tetris Forever was released in 2024, and it is a collection of some of the best Tetris games of all time, including Tetris, Hatris, Tetris Battle Gaiden, Tetris Time Warp, and many others. The music and brick-laying mechanics are so simple and pure that any type of player can pick up these games and have a good time.
Some even include local multiplayer to compete or play cooperatively, which could be a big reason why anyone would pick this game up besides their love of Tetris. Collections can come and go depending on popularity and the license, but there are physical editions at least.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2
Not The Best Gundam Game Around
Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 is an action game set in the Gundam universe that is also a free-to-play experience. It’s getting quite old for PlayStation fans since it debuted on the PS4 in 2019 and the PS5 in 2021, meaning it could be gone sooner than 2030, especially since it wasn’t well-received at launch.
10 Best First-Person RPGs On The PlayStation 5, Ranked
Owners of PlayStation 5 who still haven’t jumped into these super-immersive first-person RPGs are in for an adventure.
There are always several Gundam games out there on consoles, and right now, SD Gundam Battle Alliance and Gundam Breaker 4 are pretty well-respected. It’s possible that Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 will get replaced with a sequel, or just go away completely as a sub-series.
Hot Wheels: Rift Rally
Toys-To-Life Are Back?
Hot Wheels: Rift Rally was released on the PS5 in 2023, and it’s a free-to-download app that requires a physical purchase too. Like 2020’s Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Hot Wheels: Rift Rally is technically a toys-to-life game as players will buy cars, set up tracks in their living space, and then drive the cars around with a camera attached to create an augmented reality experience.
In a big space, players can make it a really cool and unique experience, but not everyone has good setups for projects like this. When shelf space gets restricted in stores, and these cars go away, so too will the app.
Rocksmith+
Ubisoft Could Go Down
Ubisoft started the Rocksmith franchise to compete with Guitar Hero and Rock Band in 2012, but its gimmick was that players could actually learn guitar with lessons. The original version was replaced in 2014, and then there was a long gap before Rocksmith+ launched for free in 2022.
Players could plug in their own USB-supported instruments and buy individual songs to play and learn, and the catalog has become quite extensive. It’s a good system with quality feedback, but when it comes to music games, they can often go away faster than a license like Marvel because music rights are even more limited.
The Finals
Too Many Competitive Shooters
The Finals is a competitive first-person shooter that was released in 2023, which burned white hot for a minute. It too was popular enough to get a PS4 version a year later, and the competitive scene across all consoles was pretty well-matched. As of 2026, player counts are pretty low.
A new update with characters, maps, weapons, and more could revitalize the game, but it could be fleeting even if that were to happen. Like what was said about Marvel Rivals, the free-to-play shooter market can be fickle, as there are so many choices out there.
