Following a demo, DLC-sized New Vegas mod Fallout Chicago is aiming for a full release in 2027

Earlier this week, the modders behind a Fallout: New Vegas expansion called Fallout Chicago released their first demo. With that milestone out of the way, they’re certainly not resting on their laurels. They’ve put out a roadmap indicating that they’re hoping to have all three acts of the mod’s main story ready to go for a full release in the latter half of 2027.

Posted to the mod’s page and to the project’s Discord server, Fallout Chicago’s roadmap paints the rest of 2026 as time the team led by a lead going by Grimdos want to spend continuing to lay foundations and make sure they’ve got all of their ducks in a row.

Between the start of April and the end of June this year, the modders are aiming to add in generic voice acting and make some changes to solve major bugs. Then, between and September, they’re planning to make some unspecified gameplay and worldspace improvements. 2027’s where things really start cooking. With the first act of the mod’s main story already place thanks to the demo, the Fallout Chicago lot hope to release a second act in the first half of next year, alongside some extra faction quests. Then, in the second half of the same year, they’re planning to add a third act and be ready for a full release.

It’s intriguing to see the team behind an ambitious mod commit to such a schedule at this stage, given most volunteer projects of this sort of scope tend to stick to a simple ‘it’ll be done when it’s done’ message for as long as they can. Often, that’s wise. You never know what issues might crop up, or what sort of pace a team of folks usually working in their spare time will feasibly be able to maintain while still managing to make something they view as matching their vision of what the project aimed for.

Just last year, Oblivion remake mod Skyblivion showed how complicated a situation announcing even a vague release window can land such modding teams in. Having proviously set a 2025 release goal, the Skyblivion team subsequently had to delay their release to this year, following months of speculation kicked off by a former dev on the project accusing two of its leads of trying to rush it out of the door.

Here’s hoping that in whipping out this roadmap, the Fallout Chicago haven’t bitten off more than they can chew or draped an albatross around their necks.
