After all the speculations and debate, Rockstar officially confirms that the recent GTA 6 trailer is indeed a mix of cutscenes and gameplay.
On May 6, Rockstar casually dropped a new trailer for GTA 6, catching everyone by surprise. The trailer showed Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the main characters of the game, how she gets out of prison, and they continue their lives of crime. We are introduced to a colorful cast of characters and see shots of Vice City, its beaches, nightclubs, and back alleys. Saying that they all look lifelike is an understatement, and that has sparked the debate on whether it is all “rigged” and those are just cutscenes, or whether the game will actually look like the trailer. Now, the devs have given an official statement to put the debate to rest.
Rockstar Confirms That the GTA 6 Trailer Is a Mix of Cutscenes and Gameplay
The last couple of days have been all about the new trailer and the debate over whether the game will look anything like the video. While the graphics look too good to be true, the trailer did say that it was captured on PS5. The devs have surely noticed the level of arguments between these two sides and decided to step in to give an official statement.
On May 7, Rockstar’s X profile posted: “Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.”

It is pretty hard to figure out which parts are gameplay and which are cutscenes, meaning that the finished GTA 6 will truly be something jaw-dropping. The fans had a couple of comments, like aka_Eric_V on X, who stated: “They all take place inside of gameplay. None of Rockstars cutscenes are rendered outside of gameplay. What you saw in the trailer is the same quality the gameplay currently has.”
In any case, it is hard to argue that it all looks amazing, and let’s not forget the fact that the game looks like this a full year before the official release. Rockstar will be making history with this one.
