One Piece Sets Up A Straw Hat Pirate From The Davy Clan

One Piece Sets Up A Straw Hat Pirate From The Davy Clan

Introduced officially in One Piece Chapter 1159 on September 8, 2025, the Davy Clan is a legendary group of people from the time period of the Void Century. It is believed that long ago, the Davy Clan ruled over the world of One Piece, with Davy D. Jones as the King. At the helm of the Davy Clan was none other than Davy Jones, known to be one of the most prominent figures in the history of the One Piece world.

The Davy Clan’s influence in the West Blue has been quite apparent in the Elbaf Arc, with Blackbeard known to be its last known survivor. However, a fellow Straw Hat pirate could also hold key connections to this clan, and this individual is none other than the musician whom the ongoing Esperia Kingdom flashback is currently focusing on — Dead Bones Brook.

Why Brook And Reuven Could Be From The Davy Clan

The Musician of the Straw Hat Pirates, Brook, joined Monkey D. Luffy officially in One Piece chapter 489, titled “The 8th Member,” which was released in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #13 on February 25, 2008. Since then, Brook has been an integral part of Luffy’s crew and has aided him in whatever way possible. When Brook was first introduced to us, his past was revealed to be connected to the Rumbar Pirates. 52 years ago, this crew sailed into the Grand Line, only to eventually be destroyed. Brook was revived by the powers of the Yomi Yomi no Mi, which he ate at an unknown time, and became the only member of the crew to be brought back to life. Following this revival, Brook continued to stay lost in the Florian Triangle until the Straw Hat Pirates eventually rescued him and took him on board.

“Thriller Bark once came from our homeland in the West Blue. Perhaps they will rest well in our home soil.” — Brook explains the significance of West Blue

The backstory of Brook that was revealed in the Thriller Bark Arc spanned over chapters 486-488, and while this backstory was immense, it did not truly cover Brook’s original past. The Elbaf Arc shed significant light on Brook’s backstory, starting from chapter 1183 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #26 on May 25, 2026. In the Esperia Kingdom flashback, Brook’s past was properly shown to us for the very first time, and it was clear to see that he was just a homeless boy with no parents and nothing to his name.

“Dad and mom and little bro, we’re all starving and skin and bones. How am I even alive? Eating toads so I can survive!” — Brook briefly mentions his family, One Piece Chapter #1184

As an orphan, Brook did not have anything going for him. That said, one thing that was immediately evident from his character design was his similarity to the kid version of Marshall D. Teech, who was seen officially on God Valley in One Piece chapter 1159 on September 8, 2025, in WSJ Issue #41.

The similarities between Brook and Teech are rather uncanny. Both sport an afro, both have similar Facial features, such as lips, eyes, and eyelashes, and upon first look, the two almost look as if they are brothers. Another interesting similarity between Brook and Blackbeard is that they are both from the West Blue. While Blackbeard resided in God Valley with the rest of the Davy Clan members, Brook came from Esperia, another Kingdom in the same sea, which met the same fate. Brook’s parents, as well as his siblings, being hidden by Eiichiro Oda, further adds fuel to the fire that connects him to the mysterious Davy Clan of the One Piece world.

In fact, Brook isn’t even the only member who could potentially be from the Davy Clan. Just one look at King Reuven of Esperia tells us that he too bears a striking resemblance to members of the Davy Clan from God Valley. King Reuven was a powerful ruler in the West Blue, and looking at his facial appearance, he looks extremely similar to Rocks D. Xebec, as well as Rocks’s parents, who were officially revealed to us in One Piece Chapter 1162.

It appears that there is a strong influence of the Davy Clan members in the West Blue, which could also be why so many islands have disappeared over the years. This could also explain why Imu sent the Marines and the World Government to destroy Esperia and why a Celestial Dragon reached the island long ago, as was confirmed in One Piece Chapter 1185 on 14 June 2025 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #29.

One Piece Prepares For A Sad Day On July 5 With Hiatus Announcement

The One Piece anime is going on a hiatus very soon, marking a sad day for the series.

Why The Davy Clan Scattered Like The D Clan

Davy Clan Scattered D Clan one piece

The Davy Clan is scattered all over the world of One Piece, with only a handful of survivors. The vast majority of this clan resided on God Valley, and 38 years ago, they met their end. After the death of Rocks D. Xebec at the hands of Garling, the entire island sank to the bottom of the ocean, which meant that all the family that Rocks had there sank as well. The only people who managed to escape from God Valley were Eris, who was originally from another clan, and Teech, who became the last known survivor of the Davy Clan.

“Unaffiliated countries turn into lawless wastelands, don’t they? I heard another country in the West Blue was destroyed!” — Esperia people, One Piece Chapter #1185

That said, given the existence of a Davy population in the West Blue for centuries, it isn’t out of the ordinary to consider that some members went into hiding on different islands, and Esperia could easily have been one such place. This especially makes sense, given that Esperia was destroyed and wiped off the map, as was confirmed by Brook in One Piece Chapter 1183, released officially in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump issue #26 on May 25, 2026. For the Davy Clan members to be scattered around the world makes a lot of sense, especially given that they were persecuted and hunted by the Government. Perhaps Brook’s family held a strong connection to the Davy Clan and went to hide on Esperia, eventually giving birth to Brook, who could also be from the very same clan.

Brook and Blackbeard Could Hold A Key Connection In The Final Saga

Brook Blackbeard Connection Final Saga one piece

Apart from the similarities in physical appearances as well as the place of origin, there are other things that connect Brook and Blackbeard. For one, Brook and Blackbeard have Devil Fruits with similar names. Brook has the Yomi Yomi no Mi, while Blackbeard has the Yami Yami no Mi. The former Devil Fruit allows Brook to come back from death itself, while Blackbeard’s Devil Fruit allows him to control darkness. Both abilities connect to the darkness of the underworld in one way or another, which is an interesting connection between the two.

Their benefactors are also somewhat connected and look extremely similar. For Blackbeard, it was none other than his father, Rocks. For Brook, it was King Reuven. Furthermore, both characters share a very similar, very intriguing connection to whales. Brook forged a bond with Laboon after he started sailing with the Straw Hat Pirates, while Blackbeard had none other than Whitebeard, who sailed atop the Moby Dick, another whale, completing another clever connection between the two by Eiichiro Oda.

It appears that in Brook and Blackbeard, Eiichiro Oda could potentially be painting two sides of the same coin. While both were persecuted, Brook grew up to be carefree, while Blackbeard grew up with resentment and fire for the entire world. Perhaps a meeting between Brook and Blackbeard could take place in the future, where they discussed their birth within the line of the Davy, and that would certainly be an incredible development for all the fans to enjoy.
