Pokemon GO is Just Slightly Missing a Big Boat in July

The 2025 summer season has so far been an exciting and eventful time for all Pokemon fans, including those who play traditional Pokemon games and those who play Pokemon GO. For instance, Game Freak unveiled the cover art and release date of Pokemon Legends: Z-A in late May. Then, Niantic hosted their Pokemon GO Fest 2025 in Osaka, Japan, New Jersey, USA, and Paris, France throughout mid-June. The festivities also included GO Fest 2025: Global, which saw the global debut of the Mythical Volcanion in late June. However, the mobile game is expected to miss out on a coordinating event with one major presentation coming in late July: the July 22nd Pokemon Presents.

What to Expect From Pokemon GO’s July 5, 6 Community Days

Pokemon GO is bringing multiple Community Days to its July calendar, and the developer has a lot up its sleeves in terms of narrative.

Pokemon GO’s Lack of Coordination with July’s Pokemon Presents

While Niantic’s Pokemon GO has been featured in past Pokemon Presents events, such as the announcement of Pokemon GO Tour: Unova in the February 2025 Pokemon Presents, the mobile game is not expected to feature any events coinciding with the summer presentation. Instead, the only event occurring near the Pokemon Presents’ debut for Pokemon GO is the July 2025 Community Day on July 20th from 2-5 pm local time. Here, the community day will focus on the Duckling Pokemon Quaxly, who will appear more frequently in the wild during the aforementioned timeframe. If players evolve Quaxly’s evolution Quaxwell into Quaquaval from the beginning of the Community Day until July 27, Quaquaval will be able to learn Hydro Cannon and Aqua Step.

Besides the July 2025 Community Day, the only other Pokemon GO events currently announced to occur near the July Pokemon Presents are a few Pokemon GO-themed Major League Baseball games, Pokemon GO Road Trip 2025 destinations, and the Pokemon GO Fest 2025: Max Finale. It’s highly unlikely that the July 25 Pokemon GO-themed Milwaukee Brewers game or the July 26 Pokemon GO Road Trip Paris, France destination will include any features relating to news announced at Pokemon Presents. However, with the Pokemon GO Fest 2025: Max Finale taking place in late August, Niantic could potentially reveal that features from Pokemon Presents could show up in the Finale, as exact details of the event are currently unknown.

Potential Pokemon Presents Announcements and Future Events

The July 22 Pokemon Presents was first announced alongside the reveal of Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s release date of October 16 for Nintendo Switch 1 platforms and the new Nintendo Switch 2. Due to this correlation and the upcoming debut of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it’s expected that the July Pokemon Presents event will showcase more details about the forthcoming return to Kalos.

Many rumors have also suggested that the Pokemon Presents will specifically reveal and highlight some, if not every, rumored new Mega Evolution supposedly coming to Z-A. In Spring 2025, several credible leakers revealed that 27 new Mega Evolutions may debut in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, featuring Pokemon from Gen 1-8.

With 2026 being Pokemon’s 30th anniversary and February 2026 specifically marking Pokemon Red and Green’s 30th anniversary in Japan, it’s additionally rumored that The Pokemon Company will reveal some information on Gen 10. It’s currently unknown when the next mainline Pokemon games will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2, but if Game Freak and Nintendo are aiming for an anniversary release in February 2026, announcing a teaser for Gen 10 at the July Pokemon Presents would be optimal. July 2026 will additionally be Pokemon GO’s 10th anniversary, so The Pokemon Company and Niantic may tease something for Pokemon GO’s 10th anniversary celebration at this Pokemon Presents.

Potential Pokemon GO Events Following Pokemon Presents

Despite the current lack of Pokemon GO events coinciding with Pokemon Presents, Niantic may still surprise fans and announce events that would tie into news from the showcase. For example, if new Mega Evolutions are officially revealed for Pokemon Legends: Z-A at the presesntation, Niantic may announce that these new Mega Evolutions will be coming to Pokemon GO soon, possibly at Fest 2025: Max Finale or closer to Z-A’s release. Similarly, if Gen 10 is formally announced at the Pokemon Presents, Niantic could announce upcoming Pokemon GO events that would tie into both Gen 10 and Pokemon GO’s own upcoming 10th anniversary.
