Final Fantasy 14 Fans May Have Figured Out Evercold’s Second New Job

The second Job coming in Final Fantasy 14: Evercold may already be known, as players pieced together some clues that Square Enix reportedly left behind since the expansion was first revealed in April. Final Fantasy 14: Evercold will launch sometime in January 2027, though a precise release date remains elusive as of this writing.

During the Anaheim FanFest event in April, Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed that a frozen world called the Fourth Reflection would be the main setting for Evercold. Yoshida also stated that Evercold would add two new Jobs, one being a Main Tank and the other assuming the role of Ranged Physical DPS.

While Yoshida has already confirmed that the Bastion will be Final Fantasy 14‘s new Main Tank Job, players may already have figured out what Evercold‘s other new Job could look like. On September 3, Final Fantasy 14‘s special site for Patch 7.5 was updated to include new screenshots from Patch 7.56’s upcoming main story quests. One of the screenshots caught the attention of the Final Fantasy 14 subreddit, as a character from Evercold was prominently featured. The character in question is a young miqo’te girl named Visna, who was shown holding a magic rod in her right hand while a small crossbow was sheathed on her back. During the Berlin FanFest event in July, Yoshida said that Visna will have a major role to play in Evercold.

However, that was not the only hint that Square Enix reportedly provided concerning this new Job. Final Fantasy 14 players also pointed out that the game’s lead composer and sound director, Masayoshi Soken, played some sound effects that were reportedly from a Ranged Physical DPS Job during a Berlin FanFest panel. One sound effect in question included a shot from a ranged weapon coupled with a falcon’s cry, leading players to believe that Jobs such as the “Ranger” or the “Falconer” were possible candidates. Others stated that, since Yoshida wore a T-shirt based on a former trial called Cape Westwind, the new Ranged Physical DPS Job could also be called the “Zephyr” as a reference to the real-world word that describes a westerly wind. Given that FF14 has pivoted toward creating original Jobs over traditional Final Fantasy series Jobs, it remains to be seen how Evercold’s Jobs will compare to their predecessors.

Final Fantasy 14 players will not have to wait long to meet Visna in-game, as Patch 7.56 launches on Tuesday, September 8, on all supported platforms. Along with the new story content, Final Fantasy 14‘s next content patch will also introduce the Beastmaster as a Limited Job that players can try out. However, the Beastmaster will only be available to FF14 players who have purchased Dawntrail.

Square Enix will reveal the identity of Evercold‘s Ranged Physical DPS during the upcoming Tokyo FanFest event in late October. Additional features planned for Evercold, including player housing and glamour updates, may also be discussed during the upcoming convention.
