Ice Cavern 100% Walkthrough – Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake

Ice Cavern 100% Walkthrough – Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake

The Ice Cavern is where you can get the Iron Boots for the Water Temple (and underwater exploration), but it’s also home to 3 Gold Skulltulas that you won’t want to miss. You’ll find a full Ice Cavern walkthrough below, which will take you from the start of the dungeon to the end and ensure you collect everything that might be missed along the way!

Ice Cavern 100% Walkthrough in Ocarina of Time Remake

Gold Skulltula #1

Gold Skulltula #1 2-2

Once you enter the Ice Cavern, you will need to defeat the three Freezards to open the next gate. In the following room, you will need to collect five crystals. They are all in the room, so they’re pretty easy to find.

Gold Skulltula #1-6

What might not be easy to find is the Gold Skulltula, which is hiding high above on the south wall. Use your Hookshot to kill it, then use the Hookshot again to grab it and add it to your collection.

Dungeon Map

Once all 5 crystals have been acquired, head through the unlocked door and climb up the structures. There’s an icicle blocking your path that contains blue fire. You need to collect the blue fire with an Empty Bottle, as this fire will become a key mechanic for the remaining dungeon.

Where you found the blue fire, continue walking on the path, and you will find red ice (and a Freezard). Use ZR to release the blue fire and melt the red ice, where you will be able to collect the treasure chest that contains the Dungeon Map.

Compass

Compass-7

Grab more blue fire with your now-empty bottle and head back into the room with the spinning trap. When facing southeast, you will find more red ice to melt with the blue fire.

Follow the linear path, and you will find another blue fire station. In this same room, there’s a treasure chest that can be opened to grab the Compass.

Gold Skulltula #2

Gold Skulltula #2-7

After picking up the Compass, turn around and look to the northwest ice wall, as there’s a Gold Skulltula here! Use the Hookshot to kill and grab it, then you can move back to the central room with the sawblade trap, just remember to grab the blue fire!

Gold Skulltula #3

In the main room, melt the red ice on the left path so you can enter an ice chamber. Don’t worry about the puzzle for now. Instead, turn around and look up to find the final Gold Skulltula, which, again, needs your Hookshot.

Ice Room Block Puzzle

Ice Room Block Puzzle

In this room, you need to collect the 5 ice crystals to open the gate. This can be done by moving the block of ice, but it must be moved in the right direction, or it will slide into a pit and respawn at the start.

There’s a block in the west area that you can use the Song of Time on to get to a treasure chest, but this contains a red rupee and nothing more, so it’s worthless.

Ice Room Block Puzzle 2

Push the block: south, west, north, and then east to reach the furthest ice crystal, then push the ice block off the cliff to reset it, as you now need to reach the door. This can be done by pushing the ice block south, west, north, east, then south. Now, just climb up into the final room.

Iron Boots

You will find a White Wolfos waiting for you in the final room, but this beast isn’t too hard to defeat. You can either attack during its wind-up attacks, or wait for it to finish its attacks so its back is exposed. Either way, defeat it, and a chest will spawn to give you the Iron Boots.

The Iron Boots are used to stop you from floating, as you can now walk underwater. This will be useful for leaving the Ice Cavern and for the Water Temple. For now, though, speak with Sheik and learn the Serenade of Water song:

With the Serenade of Water learned, you can instantly teleport to Lake Hylia and the Water Temple’s entrance, but for now, take a blue fire and return to King Zora to free him!
