Protect/Destroy is a chain of five contracts in Marathon that unlock after completing the Order/Chaos mission for Gantry. The first contract in this series, Protect/Destroy 1, contains three objectives that must all be completed in a single run. If you get knocked out while attempting the contract, the progress resets, and you will have to start again from the beginning.
This mission focuses on locating the Biosample Analyzer inside the Quarantine area and delivering the sample to a DCON bunker somewhere on Dire Marsh. Since these locations are not marked on the map, figuring out where to go can be confusing. The walkthrough below explains how to complete Protect/Destroy 1 and claim its rewards in Marathon.

Destroying & Acquiring Biosample Analyzer in Quarantine
The first objective requires you to locate and destroy the Biosample Analyzer in western Quarantine, which is located on the far west side of the Dire Marsh map. After loading into the match, head toward Quarantine while avoiding unnecessary fights with other Runners. Since combat is not required for this contract, bringing a Sponsored Kit is a good option as it protects your personal gear if you get knocked out during the run.
Quarantine has several entrances. Once inside, you can either eliminate the roaming UESC enemies or sneak past them. The building you are looking for is the western structure with laser tripwires across the doors. Ignore the first floor and take the stairs to the upper level. From there, jump over the laser and move further inside the building, where you will find the Biosample Analyzer.
You do not need to waste ammunition destroying it. A melee attack will break the device. Once destroyed, pick up the Biosample that drops.
Delivering Sample to DCON
The next step requires delivering the Biosample to a DCON bunker, which can be confusing since the game does not mark these on the map. There are three DCON bunker locations across Dire Marsh:
- South of Complex
- North of Greenhouse
- Southwest of Quarantine
Because the first objective takes place in Quarantine, the southwest Quarantine bunker is the closest and safest option. When you reach the bunker, look for a small container unit outside. This is the DCON terminal. Open it and drag the Biosample from your inventory into the container to complete the contract.
Extracting afterward is not required for the contract to count, although doing so will give you additional XP, which means more levels, which in turn means more Silk gained. Return to Gantry to claim the following rewards:
