Zelda Movie Reveals First Full Look at Link

Zelda Movie Reveals First Full Look at Link

The upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie has taken a major step toward reality with a behind-the-scenes look at Link in his full costume, which also marks the end of filming. This behind-the-scenes tease has quickly captured fans’ attention, especially because it’s given fans the clearest look at Link’s iconic green tunic. The image itself seems like only a minor tease, but it’s already sparked major discussion online.

For decades, Link has been associated with the green tunic, cap, sword, and shield. Though recent games like Breath of the Wild have experimented with different looks for the Hero of Hyrule, his most famous silhouette is in his traditional tunic. The upcoming movie is set for release in May 2027, and the adaptation of the Nintendo video game franchise has a lot to live up to. Luckily, this first full look is a good sign for fans of the long-running franchise.

The Legend of Zelda Movie Needs to be the Exact Opposite of the Super Mario Movies

The Legend of Zelda is following in Super Mario’s footsteps with a big-budget movie adaptation, but it will need to take a different approach.

Link in The Legend of Zelda Movie

In late 2023, Nintendo officially confirmed that it was developing a live-action Legend of Zelda movie. The fantasy adventure film brought on director Wes Ball, of Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes fame, and stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason as Link and Zelda, respectively. The movie will follow Link as he sets off on a dangerous journey to defend Hyrule against the evil Ganon.

Filming for The Legend of Zelda began in November 2025 in Wellington, New Zealand, and wrapped in April. Principal photographer Gyula Pados posted an Instagram of the clapperboard and imagery of Link’s full outfit to mark the end of filming. Fans had already received a taste of what was to come in November 2025, when Nintendo posted this first look at the iconic duo:

Still, the Instagram post is the first real look at Link’s textured tunic, which is seemingly inspired by Twilight Princess, complete with his white/cream under-shirt, fingerless gloves, and brown cross-body straps. The Legend of Zelda seems to be committed to a faithful look for the iconic hero, which is giving fans enough optimism for the overall aesthetic of the video game adaptation, even if some detractors aren’t pleased with Link talking in the movie.

Zelda Movie Will Reportedly Be The Start Of A Trilogy

A source states that The Legend of Zelda’s ambitious 2027 movie adaptation will be the first film of a planned blockbuster trilogy.

A lot of pressure and excitement surrounds the upcoming project. Recent successful video game adaptations like The Last of Us and Fallout have reinstated audience’s confidence in the genre, and everything fans have seen so far shows that The Legend of Zelda movie will be faithful to the games’ aesthetic.

This latest reveal may be small, but it speaks volumes about the film’s direction. By embracing one of the most iconic parts of Link’s designs, the creators show a respect for the source material that’s absolutely necessary for the movie’s success.
