The power of Haki holds tremendous importance in the world of One Piece. Officially introduced 16 years ago on August 30, 2010, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #39, Haki is fundamental to an individual’s survival in the New World. Silvers Rayleigh explained and trained Luffy in the ways of Haki during the timeskip, and since then, the protagonist of the series has developed this power tremendously. That said, Luffy is still far from being a master of Haki.
One Piece Chapter 1190, which was officially released on August 9, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Double Issue #37-38, expands significantly upon the power of Haki and unveils to us its strongest type capable of injuring even the King of the World, Nerona Imu.
One Piece Chapter 1190 Shows Lightning Bolt Haki Manipulation By Scopper Gaban
One Piece’s Haki has been constantly developing as a power system in the post-timeskip of the story. It went on to reach new heights in One Piece chapter 1010, in which Monkey D. Luffy, the protagonist of the series, officially figured out that Conqueror’s Haki, also known as the Color of the Supreme King, can be infused. Upon this discovery, Luffy immediately learned to infuse Haki into his attacks, and this pushed his offensive and defensive capabilities to a completely new level.
Luffy: You can infuse your attacks with the Color of the Supreme King, can’t you?
Kaido: Only a handful of the strongest can. Not a dead man walking!

Since then, Luffy has been continuously utilizing this power, especially when he taps into Gear 5, which he awakened in One Piece Chapter 1044 on March 28, 2022, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #17. That said, Luffy’s Haki manipulation is still not at the very top. Supreme King Haki is incredibly unique in that it grows directly with the user’s power level. This type of Haki cannot be trained directly, which means Luffy, who is currently not the strongest character in the series, does not have the strongest Haki either.

One Piece chapter 1055, which came out on August 1, 2022, officially gave us our first look at a new type of Haki. This happened as Shanks unleashed a massive bolt of Conqueror’s Haki to completely paralyze and subdue Admiral Aramaki, also known as Green Bull, in Wano. As Shanks stopped Green Bull, we were left perplexed as to what exactly he did with his Haki that caused the Admiral to leave the country alone. Now, One Piece chapter 1190 officially answered this question. In this chapter, Scopper Gaban, the Left Arm of the Pirate King, utilized a similar Conqueror’s Haki ability known as Kamudo, or Divine Gate. This technique saw Gaban leap in the air and charge immense amounts of Supreme King Haki and then unleash it all at once. The bolts of Supreme King Haki were so powerful that they engulfed a huge part of the Adam Tree of Elbaf.

Gaban’s Conqueror’s Haki attack ended up chopping the Adam Tree into three distinct pieces, each being larger than a range of entire mountains, significantly bigger than even Onigashima itself. Essentially, Gaban showcased an attack strong enough to chop entire islands into pieces using just the manipulation of the Color of the Supreme King. This Conqueror’s Haki bolt was even able to damage Nerona Imu, which is what made it incredibly powerful. To guard against this Haki ability, Imu used his own Color of the Supreme King and created a shield using Omen or Maki.
Gaban’s Haki was so strong that it pierced through the shield of Omen and made Imu cough up blood, as well as injured his head. This Haki feat makes Scopper Gaban one of the best users of the Color of the Supreme King and the entirety of One Piece. It also confirms a completely new type of Lightning Bolt Haki to us that Luffy has yet to learn.
How Shanks And Joy Boy Used Similar Haki In The Egghead Arc
As mentioned previously, Shanks, the Red-haired Emperor, utilized this type of Haki in One Piece chapter 1055 when he subdued Admiral Aramaki in Wano. Similarly, Joy Boy also unleashed this very same type of Haki in Egghead, specifically in One Piece chapter 1122, released on August 5, 2024. When Emeth undid the knot of Haki tied within him by Joy Boy, these massive lightning bolts caused immense damage to the surroundings. They were able to nullify the abilities of the Five Elders, knock out Vice Admirals, cause a solo sky split, and give Imu tremendous pain as well.

This new form of Haki is what Luffy must learn if he intends to go head-to-head against Nerona Imu in the climax of the Elbaf arc and the Great War to come. We are eagerly waiting to see Luffy’s progress when it comes to using Haki, but for now, this ability seems to have eluded him. Perhaps witnessing Scopper Gaban utilize it firsthand is what will allow him to master it in the arcs to come.
Long-Ranged Haki Bolt Will Be Key In The Final Saga
One Piece’s Final Saga has already showcased the usage of this long-ranged lightning bolt Haki to us. Given that it can deal deadly damage even to the King of the World, Nerona Imu, it has become incredibly clear to us that it will be key in the final saga. In particular, the fact that these lightning bolts are packed with a ton of Haki and can be unleashed from a longer range means that they tend to bypass the vast majority of the defenses in the series.
Imu’s Omen defense was penetrated by this Haki by an old, dying, and injured Gaban. Had Gaban been in his prime, Imu would most certainly have received significantly more damage and been pushed back in this clash. This goes to show that characters like Gol D. Roger, who was canonically slightly stronger than Gaban, and Joy Boy would have dealt a tremendous amount more damage to Imu. It also sets a level for Luffy to reach in the final saga of the story. If Luffy is to face off against Imu and defeat him in combat, then the thing he needs to work on most is his Color of the Supreme King. Only by refining it to the level of Scopper Gaban, Roger, and Joy Boy can Luffy save not just Elbaf but the whole world at the same time.
