After spending more than a decade in early access, robotic survival game Scrap Mechanic enters 1.0 later this month

You ever just blink and 10 years of your life have gone by just like that? I wonder if that’s how the developers behind Scrap Mechanic feel, given that the survival sandbox game about building fancy machines out of whatever you can get your hands on celebrated its 10th year in early access back in January. That’s a long time! So long I don’t want to think about it, so instead let’s look forwards by about, I don’t know, 20 days, as that’s when Scrap Mechanic will be launching into 1.0.

To those like me who aren’t very good at maths, that’s July 24th, a mere three weeks away. What 1.0 brings to the table, however, is shrouded in the tiniest bit of mystery. What is confirmed is that there will be a “big graphical upgrade,” and new stuff coming for the survival experience.

Judging from the trailer, at least some of that new stuff is a giant machine of some kind that has a big ole red light you don’t want to get caught in, loot dropped by drones, some kind of colosseum battle type situation, and something involving a whole lot of drills; it is called the Drilling Thunder update, so, you’d assume they’d factor in somewhere.

For those that have never heard of Scrap Mechanic, its core concept is around building everything, essentially, but in particular robots. These range from all sorts of vehicles, mechanical settlements, giant catapults to launch your enemies from. It’s a very granular looking game, ideal for someone that really likes to get stuck into their game creations. And if you’re looking for more details on 1.0 and Drilling Thunder, these will apparently be coming a bit closer to release, so you’ll just have to keep your eyes peeled.
