AppleTV+ Gives Fans First Ted Lasso Season 4 Trailer & Confirms Release Date

AppleTV+’s comedy-drama show Ted Lasso took audiences by storm in 2020 with its wholesome story of an optimistic American college football coach who relocates to England to coach a Premier League soccer team. When Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) takes over AFC Richmond during a nasty divorce, she only hires Ted Lasso as coach because she secretly wants the team to fail to get revenge on her ex-husband.

For three glorious seasons, Ted Lasso has taken viewers on a journey of self-acceptance, empathy, and personal growth. The show openly addresses mental health and self-improvement with an unwaveringly supportive and resilient tone, making Ted Lasso a wholesome and comforting watch. AFC Richmond fans will be pleased to know that AppleTV+ has just announced the fourth season’s premiere date and released a new trailer, and it looks like this season will be very different from the previous three.

9 Best Ted Lasso Episodes, Ranked

Ted Lasso became a fan favorite and Emmy Award-Winning comedy show and these episodes are some of the series’ highlight moments.

Ted Lasso Season 4 Will Take a Different Approach & Has Already Recast a Character

In the previous three seasons, Ted Lasso has focused on the AFC Richmond team, sporting a large and talented ensemble cast that includes Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca, Jason Sudeikis as Ted, Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins, Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, and Juno Temple as Keeley. Multiple storylines are at play throughout, from Rebecca taking charge of her own life and Roy and Keeley’s relationship to Ted’s personal struggles as he navigates his own divorce and the pressures of his job.

Whether it’s the Richmond journalists or die-hard soccer fans, Ted’s optimism, charm, and sense of humor eventually wins everyone over, and the AFC Richmond community make plenty of progress in their personal and professional lives. The Season 4 trailer shows Ted stepping back onto the field, this time coaching the women’s soccer team. Fans can also see Rebecca and Matthijs together again, Roy and Keeley potentially reconciled, and bartender Mae’s signature wink.

Plenty of Ted Lasso characters are returning this season, including Rebecca, Roy Kent, Keeley, Higgins, and Coach Beard. There are also plenty of new cast members, most notably Sex Education’s Tanya Reynolds as a coach, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, and Abbie Hern. Ted Lasso’s Season 4 trailer also shows Ted’s ex-wife Michelle and son Henry in the AFC Richmond stands, though Grant Feeley will be taking over the role of Henry, replacing Gus Turner.

AppleTV+ has not made any official statements about Henry’s recasting, though reports suggest that Henry will be taking on a more prominent and active role in Season 4, and Feeley’s soccer skills are necessary for playing Henry. Additionally, Ted Lasso Season 4 is said to include a time jump, so an older actor was required.

AppleTV+ Also Announced Ted Lasso Season 4’s Release Date

At the end of the Season 4 trailer, the release date is unveiled: August 5, 2026. Much like previous Ted Lasso seasons, Season 4 is expected to consist of 10 episodes, releasing weekly on AppleTV+ until October 7. The official logline for Season 4 reads: “Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”

Season 3 offered fans a definitive ending: Ted headed back to Kansas, Nate finally redeemed himself after moving to West Ham United, Roy took over as AFC’s manager after his and Keeley’s break-up, Beard stays in England, Rebecca announces she’s selling her 49% stake in AFC Richmond, and Keeley reopens her PR firm. It felt like a good conclusion to each character’s storyline, but Keeley’s suggestion of a women’s team has brought them all back again for a fourth installment, and fans couldn’t be more excited.
