BGMI Lite Finally Becomes Official, Bringing a Lighter Version of the Battle Royale to Budget Devices

Battlegrounds Mobile India Lite (BGMI Lite) is officially coming to India, Krafton India has announced. The lighter version of the battle royale game, aimed at low-end smartphones, is scheduled to launch by the end of 2026.

Krafton has not shared any details about the game’s features, gameplay, or system requirements yet, saying more information will be revealed closer to launch.

While BGMI Lite is new, players already have a good idea of what to expect. Before PUBG Mobile was rebranded as BGMI in India, Krafton launched PUBG Mobile Lite in July 2019 as a version built for budget and entry-level Android devices.

PUBG Mobile Lite was designed for phones with limited RAM and storage. At launch, the game was around 400MB in size and was built to run on smartphones with less than 2GB of RAM.

To make that possible, it featured a smaller map and matches with 60 players instead of the standard 100. Rounds also lasted around 10 minutes, compared to roughly 25 minutes in the full version. Despite the scaled-down experience, the game still ran on Unreal Engine 4, the same engine used by PUBG Mobile. It also went on to become the top free game on Google Play in India.

So all this gives players a rough idea of how BGMI Lite could work, although Krafton has not confirmed whether the Indian version will follow the same approach. A lighter version of BGMI has been one of the most requested features from players, particularly those using older or budget smartphones that struggle to run the standard game smoothly.

To play the base version of BGMI, you need at least 2GB of RAM, though 4GB or 6GB is recommended for smoother performance. Players also need around 2GB to 5GB of free storage and an entry-level processor and GPU. While Krafton has not confirmed BGMI Lite’s system requirements yet, they are expected to be similar or slightly lower, with the game built to run more smoothly on lower-end devices. For now, we’ll have to wait for more details from Krafton.
