Boruto Permanently Replaces The Akatsuki As The Strongest Villain Group

The Akatsuki is one of the most powerful villain groups to exist in the Boruto series, which was introduced by Masashi Kishimoto properly after the events of Konoha Crush and the death of the Third Hokage. The Akatsuki went on to become a significant part of the franchise and eventually played a role in the Fourth Great Ninja War as well, which eventually led to the conclusion of the story.

Now, over a decade after the conclusion of the original manga, Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto have introduced a new villain group that far surpasses the Akatsuki. This group is the Shinju, the strongest of which holds enough power to destroy the entire world.

Villain groups have always held tremendous importance in the franchise. In the original story, the villain group named Akatsuki made their presence known, and in the first part of the Boruto series, we saw the rise of Kara. Now, in Two Blue Vortex, the strongest villain group that currently operates is the group known as the Shinju. Originally introduced to us in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4, which was officially released on November 20, 2023, the Shinju consisted of Jura, Hidari, Mamushi, and Matsuri at one point. Later down the line, Ryu was added to the group as well. Right now, in the post-Mamushi arc, three of the Shinju have fallen already. Ryu was dealt with by Sarada Uchiha, while Mamushi was defeated by none other than the collaborative effort of Daemon and Inojin. Finally, Matsuri was dealt the final blow by Konohamaru and Boruto together. This leaves behind two of the Shinju, those being the strongest ones — Hidari and Jura.

In the post-Mamushi arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Hidari is going to fall, and his death has already been foreshadowed in this new story. That said, the strength that these Shinju possess is absolutely tremendous. They are powerful enough to destroy the entire world and, as such, are significantly stronger than the Akatsuki. Taking that into consideration, it is no wonder that they are as powerful as they are in the Boruto series.

Hidari: You could’ve collected their Thorn Soul Bulb if you wanted, so why didn’t you? Or, rather, why did you bring me back?

Jura: Good question. I’ve never pondered the issue, but just now, when I tried to imagine a world without you in it, I experienced feelings of sadness.

Why The Shinju Surpass Akatsuki In Power

The primary reason as to why the Shinju surpass the Akatsuki in terms of overall power comes down to their connection to the Ten-Tails, as well as the Shinjutsu of Claw Grimes. The Shinju are created by splitting the Ten Tails into humanoid Claw Grimes. These humanoid Tailed Beasts then feast on nearby sources of chakra and eventually lead to the development of sentient Ten-Tails based on the parent body, such as Hidari, Matsuri, Ryu, and Mamushi. The strongest of the Shinju, that is, Jura, is quite special. Jura does not have a parent body. He is simply the incarnation of the Ten Tails in a humanoid form, and that is what makes him the strongest of the lot.

“Jura is a special case. Unlike the others, he has no prototype. He is a direct incarnation of the Ten-Tails, and the one steering this crisis we’re facing right now.” — Boruto Uzumaki confirms Jura’s power, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #14

Jura’s strength is comparable to the strongest villains that we have ever seen in the Naruto franchise, which also includes Isshiki Otsutsuki, Kaguya Otsutsuki, Six Paths Madara, among others. It is quite clear, based on how this threat is being spoken of, that he surpasses all the others that we have seen in this series. Jura’s powers are still growing dramatically with each passing chapter, which makes him a threat again to the previous leaders of the Akatsuki, capable of destroying the entire world.

This threat of utter annihilation at the hands of the villains is what makes Jura a compelling character, on the same level as some of the other powerful Akatsuki villains that we have seen in the Naruto series over the years.

“All life on a planet, both current and past and long dead. We divine trees exist to suck the chakra out of all living things, and form a chakra fruit. At least that was our original driving instinct. But Code, we appear to have evolved a bit, thanks to your self-awareness.” — Jura explains the Shinju, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #4

The Future Of The Shinju In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex

With the Shinju having already made their presence known in Boruto, they are going to be expanded upon significantly as the story moves forward. The current post-Mamushi arc of the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex series, which is set to continue on October 20, 2026, with chapter 38, is going to further lay the groundwork for the fall of Hidari. With Hidari’s fall, Sasuke Uchiha’s return can be facilitated, but Hidari is certainly not going to be easy to take down, given the fact that his strength is derived from Sasuke and, on top of that, the Ten-Tails. There is Jura’s case to consider, who is so strong that it is believed that no one in the entire world can stop him. Jura’s strength might just be greater than that of Isshiki Otsutsuki, in which case he would be even stronger than Baryon Mode Naruto.

As to how he will be defeated, we do not know. But it is quite clear to see that Jura is a monstrous calamity stronger than even the best of the Akatsuki that we have seen over the years. While the Shinju are certainly a very powerful group, it must also be acknowledged that they are now reaching the end of their life. With Hidari set to fall in this arc and Jura in the subsequent arc, the Shinju will officially die off. The vast majority of the focus in the Boruto series is then going to be brought back to the likes of the Otsutsuki, who have largely taken over and shaped the lore of this series right from the get-go. These upcoming developments surrounding the Shinju and the Otsutsuki are going to be incredibly exciting to witness as the Boruto series hurtles towards its ultimate climax, which will see Kawaki and the young Uzumaki clash in a post-apocalyptic Konoha. For now, all eyes are on Shinju Hidari as the post-Mamushi arc of the Boruto series continues.

All the new chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex by Mikio Ikemoto, supervised by Masashi Kishimoto, are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
