Brand-New Division Game is Already Being Review Bombed

Adrian has been writing, critiquing, and thinking about games since he first picked up an N64 controller many years ago. These days he writes reviews, news, and features for Game Rant and believes games should be held to the same artistic standards as books, movies, and television shows. When he’s not writing for Game Rant, Adrian writes even more reviews for Sirus Gaming and likes to get nerdy about tech and retro games at HackerNoon. Outside the gaming world, he spends plenty of time enjoying movies or listening to every genre of music under the sun. Follow him on Twitter for nonsense tweets likely related to Dragon Ball Z, or check out Breadhouse Records for some tunes.

The Division Resurgence is already being hit with a flood of negative Steam reviews just days after Ubisoft brought the free-to-play spin-off to Valve’s PC storefront. As a new story in the post-pandemic universe of The Division, The Division Resurgence adapts the series’ familiar looter-shooter formula around a free-to-play structure previously limited to mobile devices.

The Division Resurgence Launches to Brutal Steam Reviews

Following The Division Resurgence‘s August 5 release on Steam, the game has been met with a wave of negative reviews. Players have repeatedly targeted the title’s loot boxes, microtransactions, level-gated progression, and limits on how quickly rewards can be earned as the game’s biggest issues. One Steam reviewer complained about “heavy menu clutter, loot boxes, and monetization shortcuts,” while another described the gameplay loop as being built around grinding levels repeatedly just to unlock basic story objectives. Overall, timed progression gates are among the most common complaints, as some of the game’s most valuable rewards become harder to obtain once players exhaust their limited daily opportunities. The “Most Helpful” review at time of publication says, “Calling it slop disrespects actual slop,” with 126 users flagging the post as “helpful.” As of this writing, The Division Resurgence holds a “Mixed” Steam rating, with only 45% of roughly 1,620 user reviews being positive.
