Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Quietly Adds Secret Witcher Content

After downloading the major 2.5 Update for Cyberpunk 2077, players have begun to discover that CD Projekt RED seems to have hidden a little more than the patch notes indicated. Nearly 6 years later, Cyberpunk 2077 continues to thrive, with a renewed interest in the title thanks to the launch of Edgerunners 2 as well as a major new patch.

CD Projekt RED has once again surprised fans with a hefty new update for Cyberpunk 2077, bringing a lot more content and features into the game even though the studio has largely moved on to other projects like The Witcher 4 and another Cyberpunk title. Update 2.5 adds new side quests, including one that crosses over with Edgerunners 2. In addition, there are new clothing options, go on a guided tour of Night City with the founder, Richard Night, hunt down 12 new minor arcana cards, as well as visiting Glamdocs to visually customize cyberware. However, there appears to be a bit more in this patch that went unsaid in the patch notes and update trailer.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Features Witcher Content

While Edgerunners 2 content seems to be the big piece of Update 2.5, players have begun discovering gear based on CD Projekt RED’s other big IP, The Witcher. Users online, like Synth Potato and vinal have begun posting images from the new update in Cyberpunk 2077 of gear they’ve found specifically inspired by Geralt’s adventures. Gear includes an “Ursine” jacket and pants, the boar carver knife, a Sihil Sword, as well as Professor Spectacles, which has a description saying every wish comes at a cost, potentially referencing Master MIrror, Gaunter O’Dimm or perhaps the Djinn that binds Geralt and Yennifer.

According to Synth Potato, these items can be found at V’s apartment after being contacted by Ariadne. The quest is there to introduce players to the new Cyberpunk 2077 clothing options and vendors around Night City. Once one of the new side missions has been finished, players will eventually recieve a second text from Ariadne indicating that a free package has been delivered to V’s original apartment at Megabuilding H10. Putting on the full set of Witcher gear lets players take a selfie to send back to Ariadne, which completes the full interaction.

Considering how important these two franchises are to CD Projekt RED, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first crossover the studio has made. Prior to the launch of Phantom Liberty, CDPR featured Witcher-themed gear for those who preordered on GOG and owned Witcher games, including a special Wild Hunt Jacket, the Gwynbleidd sword, and a Gwent t-shirt for V. There is also no shortage of Witcher Easter eggs inside of Cyberpunk 2077, some revealing a deeper connection between the two games. Eagle-eyed players have also likely seen special arcade cabinets throughout NIght CIty called Roach Race, a clear nod to Geralt’s horse.

It’s unclear where Cyberpunk 2077 goes from here. While it’s well known that CDPR is in active development on new games, it’s fair to assume that this could be the final patch, though the studio has surprised fans in the past with continued support and content. In fact, one of the best examples is the fact that The Witcher 3 is getting a new expansion over 10 years after the game originally launched. While Songs of the Past is scheduled for a 2027 launch, fans got another special surprise when it was revealed that The Witcher 3 was getting a free Remastered update, overhauling the game with new features and quality of life improvements, as well as some new content as well.
