Dragon Ball: Goku Black is Officially Making a Comeback on July 22

Dragon Ball is officially bringing Goku Black back into the fold, complete with a brand-new trailer. Indeed, it’s as surprising as it isn’t because of his popularity. Goku Black has become one of the most popular villains in the entire Dragon Ball franchise since making his debut in Dragon Ball Super’s Future Trunks arc. Unlike most antagonists, Goku Black immediately stood out by wearing Goku’s body, creating one of the series’ most unsettling and memorable twists.

His popularity only grew after he revealed Super Saiyan Rose, a divine counterpart to Super Saiyan Blue that remains one of Dragon Ball‘s most iconic transformations thanks to its striking pink aura. Combined with his partnership with Zamasu, Goku Black helped anchor one of Dragon Ball Super‘s most acclaimed story arcs. Now, fans get to enjoy him as the focus in a brand-new release.

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Finally Introducing Goku Black

Goku Black is the next character addition for Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra, a free-to-play 4v4 team battle game. The MOBA recently entered its sixth season, earning tons of praise from fans in the process. Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra added the God of Destruction Beerus with the release of Season 6, and Bandai confirmed Goku Black’s addition on July 22 in a recent trailer. Interestingly, a recent leak indicated this may happen, and it also leaked the next new Dragon Ball character for Season 6: Jiren. The latter has yet to be confirmed, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

For those unfamiliar, every Dragon Ball Z/Super character in Gekishin Squadra fills a specific role (Damage, Tank, Technical…) and grows stronger throughout each match. In doing so, they level up and unlock new abilities that pair teamwork and strategy alongside flashy action pretty well. As a free-to-play multiplayer game, it also features extensive character customization, seasonal content, and a steadily expanding roster that spans the franchise’s history, giving fans plenty of reasons to keep coming back. Goku Black is the latest and arguably one of the greatest, but it’ll also be interesting to see where Season 7 eventually goes.

Beyond that, the Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Creators Program is also out in full support of the upcoming release of Goku Black. Fans can find plenty of information about his addition, but of course, customization is a key aspect of this game. As seen above, CJR Gaming has shown off all the available costumes and skins for Goku Black, for anyone curious.

Beyond Gekishin Squadra, it seems fair to say that Dragon Ball Z games are in the midst of a renaissance. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 released its final DLC, wrapping up a decade of content, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is Bandai Namco’s main focus for the franchise in 2027. Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is awaiting its Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC, and many fans think a new RPG in the vein of Dragon Ball Kakarot is on the horizon. Goku Black is just one part of a growing buffet, to say the least.
