GameStop and third-party resellers have raised the price of used PS5 Pro consoles to as much as $1,400 — a $500 markup on Sony’s suggested retail price.
Last night, rumors began flying around that GameStop would be jacking up the price on pre-owned PS5 Pros to $1,399 for an all-digital PS5 Pro. That was confirmed this morning when the company’s website was updated with this price point. Third-party resellers who move products through Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart have also changed their prices to similar amounts. The price hike appears to be a result of the overwhelming demand for Sony’s premium console, which had a price increase earlier this year that raised the price from $750 to $900.
Demand is expected to be high for the console due to the release of GTA 6, which will most likely take advantage of the console’s extra power. However, Sony is unable to meet that demand due to ongoing component shortages, which has allowed the pre-owned market to ask for more money than they normally would.
