Joining the Brotherhood in Gothic 1 Remake requires you to have a strong connection with Baals in the Swamp Camp. This cult serves the Sleeper, so if you want to join them, you’re going to need to know how to start their questline.
While most of the Baals will give you the silent treatment, there are some, like Baal Tondral, who actually give you some attention so you can begin their missions and raise your reputation with them. Below, we’ll walk you through that process!
Gothic 1 Remake: How to Reach Swamp Camp
The Brotherhood resides in Swamp Camp, so if you’re looking to join up as their newest recruit, you’ll want to know exactly how to reach their camp.
How to Start New Souls For the Brotherhood Quest in Gothic 1 Remake
To acquire this quest, you need to talk with Baal Tondral. The red dot on the map above (to the right) shows where you can find him. You can speak with Lester at the entrance to Swamp Camp, who will guide you to Cor Kalom, and you’ll soon reach a staircase where you can find the smithy.
If you stand at the entrance of the smithy, you will spot a bridge on the opposite side. Go over the bridge and turn left. This will directly take you to Baal Tondral, who can be found teaching young novices during the day.
If you turned right instead of left on the bridge, you would’ve met Baal Cadar. You also need to win his trust to join the Brotherhood.
Get close enough to Baal Tondral and engage in a conversation with him. Exhaust his dialogue options and agree to find a new recruit for him. This will trigger the New Souls for the Brotherhood quest.
Where to Find a New Recruit for Baal Tondral in Gothic 1 Remake
As Tondral himself reveals, you need to visit the Old Camp, but before leaving, speak with Melvin. He is a pupil of Baal Tondral sitting in front of him. Speaking with Melvin will reveal that Dusty is his friend who could be convinced, and he’s found at Old Camp.
You can find Dusty in Old Camp, listening to Baal Parvez’s speech during the day, but where is Baal Parvez? Well, he usually gathers a few people around himself, a few meters away from the fire camp near the southern gate of the Old Camp.
Speak with Dusty and tell him about the Swamp Camp and how Melvin lives a better life there. Dusty is quite willing to come with you, but the guards won’t let him leave. The only way to get him out of the Old Camp is to collect 100 Nuggets and bribe the guard at the southern gate.
Once you have enough Nuggets, meet Dusty again and tell him you have the money. Now, move to the southern gate together and respond to the guard at the gate with the following line:
- We’re just going for a walk. Here’s a hundred nuggets.
Now, the most difficult part of the quest begins. You need to escort Dusty to the Swamp Camp. This can be quite the challenge, as Dusty is not a good fighter and can easily be killed. Make sure you save often and bring your best weapons.
If Dusty does “die”, then you just need to wait a minute, and then he will recover from his downed state.
Once you are at the Swamp Camp, take Dusty to Baal Tondral and introduce him as the new recruit. Then, ask Baal Tondral to bless you on your way to becoming a member of the Brotherhood.
This will wrap up the side quest and progress the Admission to the Swamp Camp mission!
