How to Get ‘Payback’s a Pitch’ Achievement in Gears of War E-Day

There are 55 achievements for players to unlock as they play Gears of War: E-Day’s campaign, multiplayer, and Horde Siege modes. Some of these can only be unlocked in a specific mode, but ‘Payback’s a Pitch’ is one of a handful that can be unlocked in any game mode where the requirements are met. For this achievement, you need to ‘take revenge on an Armored Wretch that stunned you.’ If you’re not sure how this works, then this guide will explain everything you need to know to get Gears of War: E-Day’s ‘Payback’s a Pitch’ achievement.

How to Get Payback’s a Pitch Achievement in Gears of War: E-Day

To get this achievement, you need to wait for an Armored Wretch to stun you by screeching when it’s close to you, and then use your melee attack while stunned to kill it.

I did this during the campaign’s Act 4 when you’re fighting your way to the comms tower. Specifically, there is a moment where you’re trying to take down the ‘flying ball bag’ enemies. While these and their spores are firing down at you, Armored Wretches and Tickers will also be advancing on your position. I hid under a sheltered bit to keep me covered from the aerial enemies, and waited behind a pillar for the Armored Wretches to come.

When one did, I waited for it to stun me with its scream. I made sure I was right in front of it so I would definitely be stunned. You’ll know that you’re stunned because the screen will shake and fade to more of a black-and-white tone. As soon as this happened, I used my melee attack (B button) with my Snub Pistol three times to kill the Armored Wretch.

I did this while I was still stunned. You might be able to get the achievement by just killing the Armored Wretch once you’re no longer stunned, or even by using a weapon while you are stunned. However, I am basing this guide purely off my experience and this is what caused the achievement to unlock for me.

Fortunately, it’s not too difficult to do, considering the ‘stunning’ of the Wretches isn’t that distracting. They also have to be up close to attack you, so they’re really easy to turn around and melee a few times to defeat.

The main thing to keep in mind is that it must be an Armored Wretch. These are the Wretches that have the metal gauntlets on their arms and pads on their knees. As long as you see some sort of armor on them, then it’s the type of Wretch you’re after.
