How to Redshirt in College Football 27 Dynasty & RTG

In College Football 27, you can choose to redshirt your player in Road to Glory (RTG), or a specific player in Dynasty. This can be particularly useful if you need to prove yourself more in RTG before making yourself eligible for the draft, or if you need some extra depth in a position in your Dynasty save. As has been the case for the past few years, actually knowing how to redshirt in College Football 27, is easier said than done. Fortunately, I’ve spent a chunk of time going through the process in both game modes to figure it out for you.

10 Best Sports Games for Career Mode, Ranked

The best career modes in sports games provide immersive experiences, letting players thrive as an athlete or manage a team to glory.

A player can only be redshirted when they’ve played fewer than four games in a season and have not previously been redshirted. A player will automatically be redshirted if they are a freshman and play four games or fewer in the season. This applies to both Road to Glory and Dynasty modes.

But why would you want to redshirt a player? Simply put, it gives them another whole season to break into the team, earn some reps, improve their standings, and get the attention of big NFL teams before they’re forced to make themselves eligible for the draft. If a player has barely played for an entire year of their college football career, it puts them at a disadvantage. Redshirting helps to alleviate that disadvantage.

If you want to redshirt a player in Dynasty, go to the ‘Team’ tab and then select the ‘Redshirts’ option in the menu. This will now bring up a list of players who have made four or fewer appearances during the season. Select the player you want to redshirt, and press A/ X to confirm your choice.

Players who show up in the list but their name is greyed out can’t be selected to be redshirted again. This is likely because they’ve already played more than four games, or they’ve been redshirted in the past.

It’s also worth noting that even if you redshirt a player in the menus, they can still be selected to play in games. For example, your QB2 might end up being a kick holder and, as such, is deemed to have played in a game and taken snaps, despite not properly playing a game.

Getting redshirted in RTG is a little bit more out of your control. As you’re focused on your player’s academic career, training, and on-the-field performance, you’re not deciding whether you necessarily get played. If you come in as a Freshman QB3, chances are you’re barely going to get any snaps or games, and you’ll be redshirted almost by default. It means your first season can largely be focused leveling up through completing training drills, getting your grades up, and building some team cohesion by bonding with your teammates.

That being said, there are a few ways you can improve your chances of being redshirted in your College Football 27 RTG career:

  • Flunk your academics: If you focus on failing your classes, you’ll automatically be ineligible for games for that season. If you want the extra year, this is the best way to get yourself redshirted
  • Go to a 4- or 5-star school: This is one of the easiest ways to guarantee you get redshirted. A lot of these teams, like the Alabama Crimson Tide, will have plenty of depth in almost every position. This makes it hard to immediately break into the team in your first year, meaning you’ll get fewer than four games and be redshirted.

Unlike in Dynasty mode, there isn’t an option for you to ask to be redshirted. Your coach will make that decision, so use the two tips above to help get redshirted.

Finally, it’s worth restating what I mentioned in the Dynasty section about kick holder snaps as a QB. This can also happen in your RTG save, and can be very annoying when you’re playing through entire seasons only to not be redshirted because your player was involved in such a minor way that you didn’t even control.
