Today, February 8, marks the first anniversary of Helldivers 2. So, first of all, dear divers, happy anniversary! We hope you’ll spend many more years enjoying this amazing game. Unfortunately, an issue arose and spoiled this joyous day for many players. For hours now, the PSN has been down, thus blocking all of the PS5 players from joining their fellow divers in spreading Managed Democracy in Helldivers 2.
What Happened to the PSN?
On February 8, not long after midnight (CET), players started reporting they couldn’t connect. These reports started locally, but soon enough it became clear that the outages spread and this became a global issue.
The official Ask PlayStation account on X briefly addressed the issue. The announcement simply noted: “We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN”.
The post on X directs the players to check the PSN status on the official website. At the time of writing this article, around 10 am (CET), so almost ten hours after initial reports, the PSN is still down. This includes account management, gaming and social media, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct.
As to what happened, there have been plenty of theories circling the internet, but, remember, none of these are official. At the very beginning, many players suggested it was just routine maintenance. However, as issues persisted, it was suggested that the issue was probably either a bigger software bug or a serious hardware problem.
Helldivers 2 Players Are Disappointed the Network Is Down
As we mentioned, February 8, 2025, marks one year since the game dropped. Many players cleared out their day just to celebrate in style. Alas, with the PSN down, a big chunk of the Helldivers 2 community might miss out on the festivities.
In a true Helldivers’ fashion, the players are blaming the Illuminate for the issues with the PSN. As you know, the Squids are known for mind control, so it’s entirely possible they somehow pulled this off to deter the players from participating in a possible special event.
Haha03031 noted: “I can’t fight for Super Earth anymore and it makes me sad. PSN is down, and all I want to do is serve Super Earth and kill autocratic Squid scum”. Maybe_In_Time added: “Insane how poetic this outage will be. Frustratingly meta”.
